Turtle Bay Resort Oahu
 

Any feedback on the Turtle Bay Resort on the north shore of Oahu? We have been to Hawaii many, many times, in fact we lived on Oahu in the 70's. However, it has been years (probably 20) since our last trip to Oahu. We have a big anniversary coming and were contemplating a return visit to that island (nostalgic I think) The Turtle Bay is a place that when I lived there (77-79) I dreamed of staying there and I could not even imagine being able to afford to stay there one day. My concern is that it may look and feel as old as it (and we) are. I was shocked that the last information I could find here was from two years ago. Anyone been recently? Are the cottages worth the $$? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Have not been in the Turtle Bay cottages lately - but the setting is beautiful - right on the bay. They were in bankruptcy - or the state was considering what to do with the resort - whatever - last I checked - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_Bay_Resort
but I think you still cannot beat the beautiful setting along the beach/cove.

You might also consider saying over by Waimea Bay - where friends of mine rent out their guest unit (a 2 BR 2 BA above their garage/workshop) - and there are other places around there. Just check VRBO.

The Turtle Bay resort was the setting for a sophomoric movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" if you want to see more. We stayed in cottages there long ago and enjoyed the experience. (Not the best time of year for the north shore -- December.)

The hotel is *old*. Nevermind the bankruptcy stuff; half the hotels in Hawaii are in similar straits most of the time! They just keep on keeping on.

Maybe you'd like another resort -- not necessarily on Oahu?

I love "Saving Sarah Marshall" I wouldn't choose the word sophmoric, but that's just me.

I liked the movie too, and didnt think it was sophomoric.

Hey! I can say that because it's been so long since I WAS a sophomore! LOL Maybe 'formulaic' would be better. (Is that a word?)
