Turtle Bay Resort
I am planning a couple of days on Oahu, and want to stay on the north shore. I found a good price at the Turtle Bay Resort, but have heard that it's gotten rather shabby. Can anyone give me an up-to-date report on it? or any suggestions for other places (under $150/night) on the north side?

We stopped there for lunch in February.
I thought the public areas were fine. We loved the views and the fact that is wasn't crowded. On our next trip to Oahu we are planning to stay there for a few day versus Waikiki/Honolulu.

I am also planning a short stay at the Turtle Bay resort. I just learned that it is no longer a Hilton and I am a little worried about the condition of the rooms. Has anyone stayed there recently?

I stayed here last August at the tale end of Hilton ownership. It does seem a bit older than HHV, decor and restaurants are not same calibor. Although I was not entirely thrilled with the rooms at HHV either (rainbow tower). BUT if you get the hilton expectation out of your head I had a great time here. The location is wonderful, horseback riding on the beach is great. I would certainly go back. Most rooms face ocean with a lanai, not crowded even in August. They also had a make over last year so it should be even better this year.

Remember when you stay at this end of the island you are coming to explore nature not neccearily lounge by the pool all day. You have some incredible outdoor activity here and this hotel makes it more assesible than if you are staying 45 minutes away in Waikiki.

We stayed there a few years ago for free because we knew the owner. We left after 2nts and would never return again. We thought the North Shore was not as interesting(run down and shabby come to mind)as we had hoped. Just one opinion.

Can't comment on Turtle Bay Resort (though we did see the grounds and they were lovely) but there are no other resorts on the north/windward sides. That said, we LOVED the North Shore. Low-key and relaxing, and Turtle Bay is near the most awesomely beautiful end of the windward shore. I'd go back in a heartbeat. We rented a cottage for our stay.....

E know you were just giving your opinion. The run downness you were perceiving was really underdeveloped I think. Very big movement on the North Shore to save the natural beauty that remains there.
