turning on computer on April 1?
I just heard from a friend in Israel that I am not supposed to turn on my computer on April 1. I am asking Fodorites if this is true, because you are all so smart.
|
I won't say I'm smart, but I'm smart enough not to listen to such nonsense.
April 1 is April Fools Day. The plan here is for you not to turn on your computer and by not doing so, you will have been April Fooled. |
What does this have to do with travel?
|
Hi ita,
There is a virus that might or might not do something on April 1. If you have that virus on your computer, it will do whatever whether you turn your computer on or not. Or it might not. ((I)) |
Viruses do travel Mike, even to the lounge.
Already April 01 here and all's well. |
I have a Mac so I don't worry about it.
|
Just make sure you've downloaded all the "live" updates for your security software before midnight!
|
It's been April first for 13 hours. Anybody seen any reports from the other half of the globe?
|
Well, all's still all well Robes, nine hours in!
I did hear something about this virus if it gets about being one that uploads personal data through a key stroke ghost. If that is the case, what everyone should do is to make open up bank sites for banks that they have no account with and then enter in any old thing as an account ID and password - it'll obviously be rejected - we hope! But if the Gonzo worm is there eating up all this info it could get bloated and flatulent with a load of sh#t. |

I have a Mac so I don't worry about it.</i> Macs aren't popular targets for hackers because there are so few of them - but they are by no means invulnerable. Get your head out of the sand and get an anti-virus program and a firewall. If you already have them, you've done exactly what WinTel users have. |
Just to be safe, I'm running all of my updates and scans right now.
