Turkish restaurants in NYC or Phila?
 

I would love to experience an authentic Turkish meal in either NYC, Phika. or NJ? Any suggestions?

Despite the trite name, Ali Baba on E34th between 2nd & 3rd serves good Turkish food at very moderate prices.

In NYC, Dervish, it's in the west 40s (theater district area).

In NYC, Turkish Kitchen on 3rd Ave. btw. 27 and 28. Somewhat upscale, delicious.

The food at Turkish Kitchen was great but the service was terrible. A lot of others complain about the service too so I don't think I just caught them on an off night. I'm looking forward to trying some other places...

If you decide to go to the Museum of Modern Art in its temporary location in Queens, I was just in a terrific Turkish restaurant within walking distance of the museum. The museum is on 33rd and Queens Blvd. Cross Queens Blvd. and walk up to 39th. It's on the corner. The lamb was unbelievably good, as were many of their typical Middle Eastern appetizers.<BR><BR>The best part is that on the weekends there's a free bus that will take you to the museum which departs on the hour from 53rd Street between Fifth Ave. &amp; Ave. of the Americas. I think it's called the Art Link bus or something. You can take it back to Manhattan when you're done.

There is a place up by the metropolitan Museum of Art. It is a few blocks walk Beyogiu (81st and third avenue). I loved it and it has received favorable reviews in the NYTimes, New York Magazines and I think Zagats. It is still kind of new so they are still wanting to proove themselves.
