Tumwater Canyon WA

I happened to see few fall pictures of Tumwater Canyon and was dumbstruck. They were amazing. Can someone guide me how to reach the place from Seattle. Is it a trial. If so, how long does it take. Will there be a parking lot? We want to travel with kids(ages 5-7) . We are visiting Seattle in a couple of days, so want to make it by next weekend.

Thanks in advance.

Tumwater Canyon is indeed a beautiful area. HWY 2 runs through it. From Seattle, head north on I-5 to Everett, where you can get on Hwy 2 heading East. That will take you right through it. There are a few stopping points along the way. BTW, this goes right into Leavenworth, which is about 2 hours from Seattle. Perfect place to stop for lunch before returning to Seattle.

A couple of snaps from a day loop last fall -

Along US 2 near the canyon - http://gardyloo.us/20101017_20s.JPG

Continue east from Leavenworth to the junction of US 97, then south over Blewett Pass to I-90, then back into Seattle over Snoqualmie Pass. Around Cashmere and US 97 you'll be in apple orchard country, probably with many apples still on the trees, or at roadside stands for sure. The kids will love it. http://gardyloo.us/20101017_50s2.JPG

If time permits drive up to Lake Wenatchee near Leavenworth. Gorgeous alpine lake.

Also, in Cashmere is the Applets and Cotlets factory tour, which kids enjoy. It doesn't take long at all, but our kids enjoyed it at those ages.
