Tucson solo hiking & spa, JW Marriott Starr Pass or Hilton El Conquistador?
I'll be in Tucson in October for one week by myself and both of these hotels have the same rate for the dates I am looking at so price is not a factor. I don't golf or play tennis but do enjoy hiking and photography and desert wildlife. I would also like to get some spa services. Which of these would you recommend and why?

Although it was 5 years ago, so my input is dated, we really like Starr Pass. We hiked nearby and the restaurants were very good. It is pretty removed from Tucson, so you will need a car. We liked being out of town. It may be built up more now.

Sabino Canyon is definitely on my list for hiking, thanks for the link!
A third choice is also available for the same price as the other two, it's the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain. Reviews look great and I will have a car so don't mind the location. Thoughts?

Another vote for Star Pass. One of Marriott's best properties. Well outside town with adjacent hiking trails. The vista is excellent, particularly at night. The on-site restaurants are great.
As with the others, do not miss Sabino. Also, Mount Lemon has trails with beautiful views.

Am definitely planning on hiking Mount Lemmon.
Any thoughts on the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain?
Trying to decide if it's worth splitting my time between 2 locations -- although I'm inclined not to do three.

We just stayed at the La Paloma this past April and it is a very nice place. Next time we will stay at the suggested Loew's. You can hike the Ventana Canyon trail right out the back door as the resort butts right up aqainst the Catalina mountains yet is fairly close to a number of dining choices. Link to Ventana Canyon trail. We went to the Maiden pools, but the trail continues up further from there.

Loews also not far from Sabino Canyon(recommend the Seven Falls Trail)and Mount Lemmon access road. Didn't visit, but the Ritz Carlton is way out by itself.

I agree with Happy Trvlr. Star Pass Marriott is very nice but there's not much else to see/do that's close. IMO the best places would be Hacienda del Sol,Loew's Ventana Canyon and La Paloma. All three places are near Sabino Canyon and Pima Canyon ( Catalina Mts.) which offer a number of hiking opportunities. There is good shopping and some excellent restaurants nearby.
