Tucson Restaurant Suggestions
 

We're going in 6 weeks (mid-March). Suggestions? We're staying on the west side of town. Don't need anything fancy, just GOOD.

Cafe Poca Cosa is excellent. We liked Mi Nidito and La Indita also.

Cafe Poca Cosa is great. Also, across the street from it is Barrio - excellent food and nice atmosphere. Tucson has some great restaurants. Some of my favorites - for good, local brewed beer and good food try Gentle Ben's. It is near the U of A and of course has that young crowd. Nice outdoor seating. For great pizza try Zacharay's - a dive of a place, also near U of A. At River and Campbell (not to far from where you will be) is Ovens - a nice bistro. It is at St. Phillip's Plaza which is a nice shopping area. Obsidian and Philabaum galleries are located there. Janos is at the Westin La Paloma and it is pricey, but a less expensive sidekick there is called J Bar - relaxed atmosphere with really good food in a nice setting. My teens love Firecracker in Plaza Palomino (Swan and Ft. Lowell). Good food. Also there are some interesting galleries there - one in particular is called Details and Green Shoelaces. A restaurant out East on Wilomt/Tanque Verde is Dakota. It's in kind of a touristy shopping area called Traildust Town. But in Traildust town is a nice shop called Dry Heat Trading Company. (can you tell I like galleries and shopping?)Like I said, there are a lot of really good places in Tucson. I would avoid Cafe Terra Cota...they have gotten a bit snooty, I think, since there move up to the foothills and the food is only so-so for the price. Have a good time!

I agree with the above post. But, keep in mind that there are two Cafe Poca Cosas. They are within walking distance of the other and owned by the same people. One is really, really small and the other can accommodate a larger group. You did not indicate where on the west side of town you will stay. You may want to try Mosaic Cafe on Silverbell/Grant. It is locally owned and provides a good atmosphere. For a real Mexican seafood treat, go to El Mezon Del Cobre on 1st Ave./Glenn. They have the best shrimp in town!

If you LOVE italian then you must not miss Gavi's, which will be at the Foothills Mall.

Thanks everyone for your responses. We ended up eating in a couple nights, but we did go to Cafe Terra Cotta and Cafe Poca Cosa. The latter was very good, possibly overhyped, but I'd recommend it and I'd go there again. I got the sampler plate (other posts on this board have mentioned that) and I wish my husband had too! It's a great way to sample their offerings in one evening.<BR>
