Tucson restaurant recommendations near University of Arizona?
Hubby and I are going be in Tucson for a couple nights staying at the Marriott University Park at the maine gate entrance to U of A. We'd like to find some really good restaurants within walking distance of that location. Both of us are foodies, I'd say we're slightly food snobby but that sounds really bad, we just don't eat at chains or eat fast food, however we dont' eat at fancy overpriced places. We're just looking for really good food, not chain restaurants (unless they are an independantly owned non-franchised local chain), preferably one of a kind locally owned restaurants. Just looking for the best that downtown Tucson has to offer. I figure we will be eating 4 meals, 2 lunches and 2 dinners, so I'd love to hear some suggestions from locals! Thanks a bunch!

Just to the south of the Marriott is University (aka Main Gate)which is a couple of blocks chock-full of restaurants. Some are chains but there are some excellent locally-owned places. Try Sultan's Palace for amazing Afghanistan food. Delicious chicken shishkabobs, the best rice in the world, and plenty more. Friendly and family-owned, they will make your visit a memorable one. This, and many other local spots are a stone's throw from your hotel. Happy trails!
