Tucson or Phoenix resort?
 

We have decided to head to the Tucson/ Phoenix area for Spring Break in March. We are not into golf or tennis but would enjoy some side trips, hiking, perhaps bicycling, and would enjoy a place that offers massage and hot tub. We are leaning toward a more casual resort for a low-key week. We appreciate any advice- about whether to choose Phoenix or Tucson and then any recommendations of resorts in either location. (Have looked into the Westward Look and Hilton El Conquistador in Tucson--)

While Phoenix certainly has a lot to offer, I believe in Tucson there are much more things to do very close-in.

If you do come to Tucson, skip the El Conquistador. Have been there and it seemed much like a glorified Holiday Inn. Westward Look would be a good choice, as would Loews Ventana Canyon.

I am not really familiar with it, so I can not vouch for it. but it does look like it fits your "low-key" desire.

I recently stayed at the Westward Look and really liked it. It might be just what you're looking for. If you're not into golf it's perfect because they have no golf course. I found the location to be relatively central to most of the things I wanted to do and the property was nicely landscaped. Also, the room I had was quite large-- I thought it was a good value.

Just returned from Tucson- and tho we were unfortunate to get a couple of the very few days it rains there, we really enjoyed our stay at the Westward Look Resort. Very nice, comfortable resort and great location for other restaurants and sightseeing. Ate at the Terra Cotta, Bistro Zin and Wildflower-- all great. Very good food and service at the resort as well, tho we did not have dinner in the Gold Room. Visited a couple of wineries in the Elgin area the Desert Museum- wonderful, and hiked about 6 miles in the Sabino Canyon - very enjoyable. Took advantage of the Sonoran Spa while there- very nice facility and services. The desert is beautiful in its own unique way. Thanks to all who helped with ideas-- especially MikePinTucson.

I think MikePinTucson is really a travel agent for the city of Tucson. (lol) The wife and I are going to Tucson for a few days in April and Mike was very helpful. Jim, just so you don't feel left out, we will be flying in and out of Phoenix. ;-)
