We enjoyed the Saguaro National Park and Mission San Xavier del Bac, the Pearl of the Desert, built in the 1700’s and currently undergoing refurbishing and still functioning as a parish church for the Tohono O’odham. We spent one brief night in Tucson last July, at the end of our 2 week National Park trip. Both of the places I mention involve some driving to see, but they were worth the effort. However, some other suggestions above might be more fun for son. Certainly not a time of the year to do much mid-day hiking!

We did the Sabino trip yesterday. The water was running and over some of the bridges. My mother was with us so we weren't able to do a lot of hiking but the canyon was beautiful. We had lunch at Dakota's in Tucson and then visited the botanical garden. The butterfly room was closed by then but we could still see an amazing number of the gorgeous creatures through the window. The garden was a lovely and peaceful spot with very few people at that time of the afternoon.

On to Kartchner today and perhaps a cactus league game tomorrow.

Karchner Caverns would be cool and are very interesting.

Just returned from two weeks in Tucson.

The Center for Creative Photography is currently hosting a fascinating exhibit called "New Topographics", a retrospective of a 1975 exhibition, sort of an "anti-Ansel Adams" view of photographing the western landscape. Not sure if it will still be there in June, but the Center is indoors and free. Highly recommended.

We hiked Sabino Canyon area several times at dusk, when things are cooling down nicely. Saw a gila monster one evening and an elf owl landed right in front of us on another night. Good time to be out.
