Tucson hotels
I've done a relatively quick search here for hotel recommendations for Tucson, but could use your help.
We will be traveling back from a wedding in in San Diego (by car) with our two young grandsons -- 5 and 3. We're stopping overnight (in July -- yep! July!) to get a feel for the RV resorts in the area for next winter. We know that July is hot, but this is our best chance to stop. Since it's just an overnight, we'd like to stay someplace (hotel -- not RV park this trip) really special -- knowing that the summer months bring some good deals. Do you have any recommendations for a spot with a nice pool that they boys would like? Thanks! Eileen |
Just re-read what I wrote, and our grandsons are actually 5 and 6 years old, but this really shouldn't make any difference in our needs.

I had suggestions of Omni Hotel, JW Marriott Starr Pass and Loews Ventana Canyon among others on another post earlier this month. You should be able to get better deals in July than my DH did in May.

Also Hacienda Del Sol was mentioned.

The suggestions from trippinkpj are good. I'd also add Westward Look and the Windmill Inn at St. Phillips Plaza. The latter is generally less expensive that the others but in a great location with several good restuarants within walking distance.

Thanks! I just did an online look at the Windmill Inn -- given the lower cost and the location. It appears to look something like the chain hotels do. Am I right?

I've stayed at the Omni Hotel ... and loved it!!

If you want the nicest pool area, I would say Westin LaPaloma. We were there last July.
BUT - the rooms were tired, there is a resort fee. And service was less than settar. WE moved to JW MArriott Starr PAss and loved it! I did a trip report on it: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34843007 Hope this helps. IT will be HOT! And if you get up really early, they have free guide led walks thru the dessert near hotel. Not hard, but bring tons of water! It leaves at 6 am or something like that. Also, remember Arizona does not go on daylight savings times, so in July it will be same time as CA, but once you leave AZ [and head into NM} it will be an hour later. Debi |
EastEileen,
Yes,the Windmill is more like a chain than the others I'd put it between the resort hotels and the chains. It's the convenience of the location (several restaurants within walking distance and next to a great bike/walking path) that makes the difference. And, St. Phillips Plaza is a nice venue. |
