Tucson AZ restaurants?
 

I'll be in Tucson AZ next week, staying on the south side near the air force base. I like healthy food, seafood, and wondered what was on that side of town that someone might recommend?

Casino of the Sun on the S side of Tucson has a good restaurant with lots of variety on the menu. The Marriott Star Pass on the SW side of town has several really good restaurants. The University area has a restaurant row street with casual, but acceptable restaurants.

The best seafood restaurant I've visited in Tucson is up on the north side called Bluefin. It's near Sunrise and Oracle.

I don't think Casino of the Sun will be anywhere near you, if you are staying near the main entrance to the base. CoS is on the far southwest side of Tucson, while the main entrance to the base is on the east/southeast side. Will you be staying on South Craycroft?

I'm not sure what you mean by "healthy" food. But my favorite Mexican restaurant, El Charro, has an east side location not far from the base. There is also a Sweet tomatoes buffet restaurant on the east side. There is also a Marie Calendar's. And Gavi, a great little Italian restaurant. And some nice steak houses. Maybe you can tell us what type of cuisine you enjoy---------just saying "healthy" doesn't tell us much.

I'm staying at Voyager RV resort at the very south end of Kolb, which I've heard is near the base... By healthy I mean a menu that's not all deep fried, some vegetarian choices, like that. I like international cuisine. A really good Mexican restaurant would be nice, i love Italian...

Not sure what you looking for in terms of take out, eat in but there is a Organic foods store on Fourth, near the University that had a very tasty deli.

Seems like lots of Mexican restuarants in Tucson have green corn tamales. There's also a Trader Joes and a Whole Foods (I've never been in the one in Tucson b/c I'm underwhelmed by WF in general)

A heads up, we went to Tucson a month ago and the 10 is totally torn up from one end of town to the other. You'll want to take side streets.

You won't have to worry about the freeway construction. That is nowhere near where you will be staying, or near the base. There are several ramps that are closed through downtown. But the freeway definitely is NOT "torn up from one end of town to the other. From where you are staying, to the base or to any other areas of town, you won't even get on the freeway.

OK, the Voyager is just south of I-10 on Kolb. Easy Access to town and everything.

I don't eat seafood, so I can't help you there. But I already mentioned my favorite Mexican, El Cahrro. Not all of their dishes are great, but you do need to try the carne seca plate (or chimchanga). It is at Broadway and Wilmot.

A lot of other great restaurants in that general area. Dakota Cafe, Jonathan's Cork, Gavi's Italian, Pinnacle Peak for steaks, or El Corral. Lots of other good Mexican, but not really close to where you are staying. Other than La Fiesta, which my wife says has great albondigas soup. And on Speedway, just east of Craycroft, is La Parilla Suiza. My wife loves it (more Mexico City-type food), but I don't care for it. For Italian there is also Mama Luisa's, just outside the main gate. Also not far from the main gate is Famous Sam's, the original one, which is a sports bar. Great pastrami sandwiches.

Carrabba's Italian Grill has awesome food. Highly recommended.

These are not near where you are staying however worth the trip.For seafood there is Kingfisher on E. Grant and its sister property Bluefin Bistro at Ina and Oracle. In La Encantada shopping center, Skyline and Campbell,you'll find Bluepoint.
You will find all varieties of ethnic restaurants in Tucson, maany serving seafood. For Italian, Tavolino's at Ina and Oracle.
