tsa and spacebags
Has anyone used space bags in checked luggage. We are traveling from southern CA back east during the holidays. I would like to pack our snow pants, heavier jackets, etc. Thought they would be a good idea as all the above are easily compressed. Worried they will be opened and then I'm screwed. I was planning to use the vacuum kind still I will have access to one on the return trip as well. And yes, I will be aware that more stuff does make more weight in the suitcase.

We always print a list of contents inside the spacebag that they can see if they open the suitcase and they have never deflated them... on two occasions...once in a suitcase and another time when we did everyones snow stuff in a cardboard box taped shut... good luck

Are you staying with friends or family back east? I ask because then you could just mail a box in advance and avoid the hassle.

I've used them often on overseas trips. Never labeled them and never had them opened.
|
Have used them several times, domestic and international flights, and never had a problem.
|
As long as there isn't anything metal or ''suspicious'' in them--something hard in the middle, etc., chocolate (apparently).
|
Used many times--no problems with TSA. I do have trouble with the bags taking on air sometimes.

I travel from one to three times a month - for about 20 or so trips a year, and have never had my space bags opened. Then again, it could always happen - but I only put clothing in them and they are, apparently, transparent, unless, as someone said, you put something like a razor, or some liquid...
