Trying to decide between hotels
I want to be close to subways, buses etc. and I would like to have a nice size room for the money. I have narrowed search down to the Madera, the Doubletree (not the suites) and the Hotel Lombardy - can anyone help with more specifics on these? All 3 seem close in price at the time I'll be going (late August) so I think convenience and condition of the hotel will be the deciding factor. Thanks.

What city?

Well there's a Doubletree and a Lombardy in NYC - as well as a subway - but have never heard of the Madera.
You really do need to tell us where. |
It's DC, although there are a couple of Doubletrees.

Yes, it's in DC....sorry for not being more specific. This system here still confuses me because I choose US and then I choose DC so I just automatically figure whatever I'm posting goes to a DC forum...in any case the Doubletree I'm referring to is the one near DuPont circle but not the Doubletree Suites - I think it's just called doubletree hotel.

When you post, your messge goes to the entire US forum; there are no individual state forums. The designation of a state is only for future search purposes.
I'm not familiar with the other two, but Madera is in a very nice location and is only several years old so condition should be very good. Have you thought of using Priceline? For the last week of August you'd probably get a great price for a 4-star in Priceline's ConventionCenter or Dupont areas. All would be easy access to Metro, but with the savings you could take a taxi if you were a bit farther than you feel like walking from a station at night. Even if you make a cancellable reservation at one of your chosen hotels now, you can explore Priceline and perhaps get something nicer for $80. Do read biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com if you aren't familiar with Priceline -- it takes time to do the reaserch, but the payoff can be great. |
The Michelangelo is an outstanding hotel and the location is much nicer than the Doubletree.
Unless you want to be right smack in the middle of Times Square. |
