True Beach Experience

Want to bring my family to the Cape in Spring 2009. Would like to rent a house ON THE WATER!. What area of the Cape/Martha's VIneyard/Nantucket, etc. would you recommend for the true Mass. beach experience? What town should I be looking at? Want the lobster on the beach, wine sunsets, rolling waves, etc. -- all right out our front door! Thank you!

If you're really talking about Spring the water is much too cold for swimming - and even the beach will be chilly (you can get snow into early April).

Are you looking just for relaxing? If you want beach /swimming you'l have ot go later in the year.

Sept is the perfect month - kids are back in school so crowds are gone and prices are (somewhat) lower. Water is warm, and you can still get very nice days, especially 1st half Sept.

If you want sunset you'll have to be on the west coast, which means one of the islands, not the Cape.

I've been to the beach in NJ, NY, and Mass in the spring, and even up to Memorial day you can freeze your butt off - no fun. I've spent Memorial day weekend in the past huddled in sweat pants and blankets on the beach the sky was cloudy and the wind howls.

Have to agree with everybody; while you can indeed have a pleasant vacation on the Cape in the spring, a "true Mass Beach experience" it won't be, for sure.........summer or very early fall for that.

Unless you are from Scandinavia, it is too cold to go into the water in Nantucket, the Vineyard, or the Cape before mid to late June.

On Nantucket, trees don't even get leaves until early to mid May.

It is generally foggy and often quite cold through Memorial Day (last Monday in May) and high temperatures will only be in the mid-60's fahrenheit through much of June. Spring is not the time to come to this part of the world, and I live here and love it!
