Tru Restaurant

Hello,

I have a question to all the good food lovers. I am taking my boyfriend (who is studying to be a chef) to TRU restaurant in Chicago for his birthday, but to do that, I need to save up some money. So the question is, does anyone know approximately how much it would set me back keeping in mind that there will be the 2 of us and he will get the Grand Prix menu and I will get the Seafood menu. Would anyone know?

Thanks

Here is the web for TRU:

http://www.trurestaurant.com

It lists all of their menus and their phone #. You could call them directly to find the prices of the different menus.

Each time we spent around $500.00 for two of us

It think it depends on the wine you drink. The bottles start around 35 bucks and go up forever.

500 bucks for 2 is a good consverative estimate. I doubt it would be more and it could very well be less. Don't miss the caviar staircase !!

I wonder if the TRU staff would consider spending a fraction of one meal's price for a Web site proofreader. To wit: "...the intimate foray [foyer?] is a luxuriating [luxurious] space to lounge prior to being seated." and "chairs custom-made from [in] Spain make-up [make up] the room's minimalist decorum [decor]."

It may be sophisticated fakery meant to sound as though it was written by a European with quaint English skills, but I suspect it is simply a case of American malapropisms. I'm sure TRU has wonderful food and otherwise impeccable standards, but my first encounter with the place has only caused me to snigger.

Sorry, as an old English teacher, I just can't help myself. Let the flaming begin.

As a former journalist, you've hit upon my pet peeve! Too funny...

Hmm, I've never been a fan of minimalist decor, but a place that advertises it has "mimimalist decorum"? Now that sounds like a fun place!

Our last dinner there came to slightly over $600 for two. We had cocktails, a very good bottle of wine, coffee and my husband had port after dinner. Everything was wonderful but the desserts were outstanding.

Tru is one of the best dinning experiene anywhere. The food is presented like a work of art, service was choreographed like a professional dance team. The atmosphere is trendy but
I would not decribe it as stark or cold. They have ama zing art work all over the restaurant. The only drawback is the price.
