Trivia Question for Movie or Travel Buffs
 

Last night my teens were watching a movie called "Ten Things I Hate About You". I was intrigued by the beautiful architecture of their "high school" in this movie-- it looked like a castle! Appeared to be on the coast, maybe Northern California. Am curious to know if any film or travel buffs know what this building really is... naybe a college?

I beleive it was filmed in Seattle. Tho they do move around sometimes for movies! Maybe a google search will help you?

By the way, saw this movie with my daughter. I enjoyed it.

I believe it was Stadium High School in Tacoma.

That's too funny! I was wondering the same thing. My DH and I were both wondering where one could go to a high school that looked like that! Cute movie, Heath Ledger is yummy.

It's in Tacoma just south of Seattle- Padua High School

It was definitely Stadium High School in Tacoma. My nieces attended. It is a lovely old building right on Puget Sound.

They called it Padua High School in the movie, after Romeo and Juliet, which takes place in Padua, Italy. But it is called Stadium High School in real life.

Actually, back to my internet research here, only part of Romeo and Juliet is in Padua - Romeo is exiled there. More of the Taming of the Shrew takes place there. So, the name may have been picked for both plays or more!

The movie is the story of The Taming of Shrew, right down to the characters names. Hence, the Padua reference and some of the dialogue.

Thanks Ryan. It's been awhile since I saw the film. Now I'm inspired to watch it again!

Also filmed in Tacoma was "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle." The pretty house with the greenhouse that the nanny lives in is on the north end of Tacoma, not more than a mile or two from Stadium High School.

Also, not more than a mile from Stadium (but in the other direction) is the new Glass Museum, Tacoma Art Museum and State Historical Society Museum, all of which will provide anyone visiting the Seattle area a fascinating day. Tacoma has some very worthwhile attractions, and they are easily accessible from I-5. Just thought I'd throw that in!

The credits said it was filmed entirely on location at or near Edinbough Castle in Scotland. Had me fooled too.

Like others have said, it's Stadium High School (and it says so in the credits). It was originally a very grand Victorian hotel. Although it is now coverd in brick, the entrance was paved in glass bricks that looked down on the swimming pool. Before the movie was filmed there, the movie comapany (I think it was Fox) came in and repainted and fixed it up. The football field is just like they show in the movie, a bowl. Every year Relay For Life is held there.

As for "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle", the green house was built for the movie and the yard is TINY. I can't remember the exact location of it, but it's between University of Puget Sound and Stadium High. My dad works for Tacoma City Water and took me by the house once. (I'm a Tacoma native, born at Tacoma General Hospital only a mile or so from Stadium HS)

The Stadium Distric is a Victorian neighbor hood, with tons of large Victorian houses and tree lined streets. It is a very beautiful part of Tacoma.
