Trip West

My wife and I are leaving Parkersburg, WV late August for a wedding in Boulder, CO. We are planning to go to Yosemite afterwards, but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about sites to see on the way out and back. We'll probably take 2-3 days to get there and 4-5 days on the return trip.
Thanks

Are you sure you mean Yosemite, which is in California?

If you drive to Boulder by the fastest route, it will take you about 20 hours to drive on the way out. If that is what you are talking about you won't have much time to sight see along the way.

If you mean you will take 2/3 days to get to Yosemite, well, that will be about 16 or so hours of driving without sight seeing or spending time in Yosemite.

You then will have to turn around and drive the 36 hours back to WV. That's 4 days of driving 9 hours each.

You might find it more interesting to spend the time exploring Colorado while you are there and save Yosemite for when you are in California. Just saying

My apologies. I meant Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. I was reading about Yosemite just before the post and it jumped into the forefront of my brain. Mmm, maybe I shouldn't be driving West. lol

Let me clarify. We are going to take 2/3 days to drive to Boulder from Parkersburg. So 7 hours driving per day with a little sightseeing thrown in. Don't think there's much to see on the way out that is going to take a lot of time.
Going to spend 4 days in Boulder for the wedding, then drive to Steamboat Springs to spend a couple of days with my son.
Drive to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons after that (about 8 hour drive from what I understand).
Now, is there a nice scenic route from there through, say, SD, MN, IN or should I go back to CO, explore that for another 2/3 days, then take another 2/3 days driving home?

>>Mmm, maybe I shouldn't be driving West.<<

Indeed. I suggest you fly rather than drive, and avoid spending most of your time in the car for an exhausting trip.

Do you have reservations for Yellowstone yet, or were you planning on staying outside the park like in West Yellowstone, Gardiner or someplace else?

If you left Yellowstone and went to Badlands NP it would not add much driving time to the trip back to WV.

If you don't have lodging in the Grand Teton or Yellowstone yet, call frequently as people make reservations way ahead and then cancel when they find they can't make the trip. In the mean time, reserve a cancellable room as Jamie99 suggests in West Yellowstone or Gardiner or Cody. ]
