Trip to San Diego in Sept.

My husband and I are planning a trip to San Diego in September. Wondering what the weather will be like then - places to stay - things to see. Any help would be appreciated.

Linda: the weather should be perfect in September. The days will be warm, (perhaps very, very warm!) the nights will be cooling down, but not cold. If you happen to hit a Santa Ana,(when the wind comes strongly from the desert) it won't be cool at any time of the day or night. The beaches will be great, all the kids will be back in school. Also the Zoo, the Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park and its museums, the Cabrillo Monument with its fabulous views, La Jolla for shops, good restaurants and people watching, Julian for apple pie and lovely walks in the mountains, our almost-local wine country in Temecula (about 1hr north-east of San Diego on Interstate 15. What type of place do you want to stay in?

Our trip to the San Diego area is posted at . . .

geocities.com/judcomp/sd1.htm

This lists many of the attractions we considered visiting, but, of course, we didn't have time for all.

Barbara and The Comptons:

Thanks for the ideas. I have looked into some of the attractions (ie. Zoo, Animal Park, SeaWorld) but am thankful for the others.

I am also glad to hear that the weather will be nice. Beaches are not the thing to do in RI in Sept. so I am glad to hear that it will still be beach weather.

We are looking for a moderately priced hotel with the basic amenities, but other than that we are not too particular and would appreciate any recommendations. Recommendations from others are always better than the standard reviews.

Thanks again.

The weather is alwaly nice in San Diego, no matter when you go. The last time we went there, we stayed at the Balboa Park Inn. It is located just outside of Balboa Park. It's not a real big place (probably about 30 rooms) and is a bed and breakfast of sorts. Each of the rooms are done in a different theme and decor and each morning they deliver a continetal breakfast to your door. We found the place really delightful. They have a web site at www.balboaparkinn.com where you can see pictures of the different rooms. And when we went we found the rates to be very reasonable. I must also agree with Barbara that Cabrillo Monument is definetly worth seeing. I also enjoyed going over to Coronado Island and seeing the historic Hotel Del Coronado, it's a nice place to have a lunch.

What and where is Cabrillo Monument? Public transportation? I'll be in SD a couple of days in August but without car and with little extra time. I'll booked downtown.

Cabrillo Monument is the old lighthouse at the tip of Point Loma. Beautiful views, and a museum of the old lightkeeppers home inside. You'll pass Rosecranz national cemetery on your way, and well as some military bases. Not sure, but i think I've seen city busses out that way.
