I would not stay by the airport unless I had a flight the next morning. Or maybe this is a biz trip and you need to be by the airport? How long will you be here, who is in your party (kids? bar hoppers?, what do you like to do? Give some info and we'll have lots of opinions!

not a business trip.. visiting elderly friend... planning a day trip to Key west.. then random day trips.. everglades ?....bill baggs state park... I so enjoy staying on the beach.. or at least near the water...
we stayed at the wyndam beach resort ?? miami.. right on the water.. and felt the rooms were very ...run down.. we are only going to be there 3 nights .. wish we had more time.. let me know.. THANKS

Why aren't you staying on the beach if that is what you want?

No way I'd stay at the airport unless I had a really early flight out. It isn't the best neighborhood.

If your options are the airport Hilton or the Sonesta at Key Biscayne, I would choose Key Biscayne in an instant. It's not that the Hilton is bad or in a bad area, it's just that there isn't much of anything to do around there at all. At least in Key Biscayne you have the ocean, and the feel is more laid back. I would say that while Key Biscayne is a bit out of the way, it's not much more than the airport Hilton, and you can get on I-95 right at the entrance to the island and go wherever you need to. Bill Baggs is nice, as is Crandon Park both right on Key Biscayne. A day trip to Key West makes for a long day. The Everglades are more manageable in one day, take sunscreen and bug spray - it's been rainy, muggy, and hot - favorite conditions of mosquitos.
