Trip Report Trip to Maine/Quebec City, Canada - August 2013

Jump to last reply

An overdue trip report from our vacation last summer. We are a family of four and traveled with an 8 and 10 year old for this trip. We drove from Bucks County, PA to Portland, Maine - took a ridiculous amount of time to get there the traffic in Connecticut was a nightmare, arrived late at night and stayed at the Hampton Inn in Portland - nice location but overpriced for a Hampton Inn. The weather was rainy so that put a damper on things - literally. Back on the road the next morning to drive from Portland to Eastport - it takes forever at least 6 hours. We stopped for lunch along the way at a dive that had great food - something hawk, eagle - sorry it escapes me.

Arrived at Eastport, Maine around dinner time. Wonderful place checked into Milliken House - here is my review from trip advisor (brice2):

Got nervous reading some of the reviews and to be honest we are not B&B regulars. We all liked this place a lot! We had the larger half of the 3rd floor which had a bedroom and bathroom with a Queen bed and a sitting area with two twin beds. The furnishings were scaled down from the rest of the house but the space was great perfect for a family of four with kids ages 8 and 10. Bathroom was minimal with a stall shower. I knew that we would get the third floor so I wasn't upset when I saw the steps - though it did make you think twice before making the trek. Breakfast was excellent and Mary was a gracious host. Her son was helpful, a bit quiet. We were there for three nights and the rotation of guests made it even more interesting. Bottom line - not a lot of options in Eastport and we would go back here again. It is not a resort it is a home set your expectations accordingly and you won't be disappointed. My children loved getting to see Dudley the house dog (small and friendly). Nice place.

The town of Eastport itself is quite charming and all the better because my brother and his family live there. I posted many reviews on trip advisor if you have a specific question please comment and I will reply.

After three nights we were on our way to Greenville, Maine - also a long drive don't remember how long maybe 4 hours - stayed at the Greenville Inn in a cottage for two nights - nice place and you can walk to town. Stress Free Moose Cafe was our place to eat - went twice. Did a private tour moose safari through Northeast Whitewater we saw two moose and it was awesome - highlight of the trip.

Next destination was Quebec City, Canada - also a long drive (this was indeed a road trip) and we arrived late afternoon to stay at the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac - OMG gorgeous exterior. They were updating the interior so that made it slightly less splendid but I hope to get back there some day, remarkable place. The city of Quebec is charming and very european with little cafes and shops along cobblestone streets - I LOVED it. Stayed three nights - great food, atmosphere want to return.

Drove from Quebec City home to Bucks County, PA.....again it took forever maybe 7 hours....stopped in Saratoga Springs, NY on the way home and that was a really nice break. It was a great trip and will be remembered for years to come.
