Trip to LA alone

I'm from Palestine..planning to visit my aunt this summer;she's located near LA..
The last time I visited her,it was not very fun,I spent most of the time at her home..
So any ideas what can I do in this area? like join camps, work o volunteer? (I'm 18 years old)

I'm open to anything... any suggestions?:)

I'm not an expert on this but I think you need a visa other than a Tourist Visa to do any type of work.
Without a drivers license in English you won't be able to drive or rent a car
With good ID you can use buses and trains to get around California and maybe to Las Vegas.

Where is "near" LA? It is a big area.

La verne,it's one hour away from LA.

Transportation is no problem for me,if I find something suitable very away from La verne.. I don't mind staying at a motel..

Also, learn the public transportation system. One way to do this is to go to maps.google.com, enter your aunt's address and your destination. Then, click the little symbol that looks like a train. Up will pop one or more ways to get to your destination.

Information about timetables and fares for the public transportation system that serves your aunt's neighborhood are also available on line.

I wish you a wonderful summer in the USA this year,

Now that I know you will be in La Verne, there may be something of interest closer to where you will be staying. These links may help:

How long will you be visiting? That might impact volunteer ability. If for a short period of time, it might not be worth it to them to train you or similar. [Agree that you will not be able to work legally without proper visa.]

Thanks:) but I'm looking for something more fun/adventurous even fi it's in another sate ; I know this seems unrealistic to find..

yasmin12 Apr 21st, 2016 08:38 AM

@debitNM 1-2 months it depends also if I find something suitable to do there.. I have not booked yet

Another stumbling block - there are loads of local teens that are looking for summer jobs, so that's going to make it difficult as well.

Is there an organization you belong to at home that may have a similar group in the LA area (religious, cultural, etc)?

A lot of foreign teens work at the beach resorts around where I live, but that's not around LA.

They do have some opportunities for international students working on camps on Catalina Island.

Here is a good volunteer/nonprofit job website I know, they have lots of opportunities, why don't you check it out for the LA area

You will not be able to work under a normal tourist visa, and the US with a few specialized exceptions does not have a Working Holiday Visa. Canada does have one from what I read on Lonely Planet Thorntree.
