Trip to Jupiter, FL
 

My husband and I are going to Jupiter to check it out as a possible place for retirement. Have been to FL many times but not Jupiter. We really want to see and do as much as possible to see if it might be a fit for us. Want to go to restaurants, beaches, etc. Any suggestions for us? Also we will need a hotel so a suggestion for that would be helpful also. Does anyone know if it is a dog friendly town. Will need to be since we have 2 dogs. Thanks!

Tripadvisor.com lists hotels by area with reviews. There appear to be quite a few good options in Jupiter. Your post actually gave me the idea that we might spend some time there before or after visiting friends in West Palm beach. I thought the Fairfield Inn Jupiter looked good.

I will try to ask my friends in WPB what they know about Jupiter. They have a lab and take her to the beach and to dog parks. I don't think you'll have a problem.

I will ask my brother who has lived in that general area for many years and see what he says about hotels etc. as well as being dog friendly.

You might want to Google Jupiter. Just a suggestion.

My Mom's best friend lived in a house in Jupiter for about 30 years. I think the area is much more scenically beautiful than the more-crowded sprawl further south; there seems to be much more open land.
If I were in the market for a second home in Florida, I would certainly look there and I did, in fact, spend a day looking at properties with a realtor two years ago. He has a website that is informative about all the devlopments in the area:

There are a few hulking mostrosities on the beach, but also many condos on the Intracoastal with great views. Look, too, in Juno Beach just to the south.

One thing to keep in mind is that the beaches have suffered quite a bit of erosion over the past years. I always noticed many dog walkers along the sands when I visited.

I'm sorry, too, but I don't know a thing about Jupiter. (Other than that the current season of American Horror Story, Freakshow, is set there, in the 1950's. Not exactly helpful, I know.)

Jupiter is a very nice area of Florida, particularly the Jupiter Inlet area. There are not that many hotels there, you'll find more to the south in the Palm Beach Gardens and the Singer Island areas. If you'd like to be on the beach the Hilton Singer Island is quite nice.

One of my favorite restaurants is in Jupiter - Little Moir's Food Shack, which has wonderful fresh fish in huge varieties, with excellent Bahamian preparations.

Just south of Jupiter, in Juno Beach, is another excellent seafood restaurant, Capt. Charlie's Reef Grill:

You'll find an excellent ocean promenade along A1A from Jupiter all the way down to Juno, and there is a very interesting ocean park in Jupiter called Blowing Rocks Preserve, that has limestone formations along the water's edge.

Char, my friends in WPB say the beach in Jupiter is one of the few that allows dogs and take theirs there. They also said the Fairfield Inn I mentioned is in nowheresville..not an attractive spot.

Stayed at a typical Holiday Inn Express 5 years ago on US 1. While the hotel was just passable, our one-night stay was greatly enhanced by the two meals we enjoyed in the immediate neighborhood: Juno Beach Fish House, and a marvelous breakfast place (whose name escapes me now) directly across the street. All three properties are at the intersection of US 1 and Donald Ross.

I visit family in nearby Palm Beach Gardens occasionally and agree that Jupiter seems like a lovely place to live. Enjoy the hunt for your retirement home...it's an exciting time !

I love Jupiter but Jupiter Island and Hobe Sound are very wealthy enclaves.
