trip to FL keys re-routed...need advice!
My husband and I were planning a trip to the FL keys this week -- we'll be in FL anyway at a conference so we thought we'd turn it into a vacation. HOWEVER, we were just informed that it will be Bike Week in the Keys (and I don't mean bicycles) the days that we would be there. We're flying into Ft Lauderdale, so now we're thinking maybe driving to the west coast of FL for a few days. Any suggestions or advice on where to go? Thanks!

Stay with the Keys. The bikes hang out in Key West. The other Keys won't be nearly as crowded.

Linda--

Forget the keys--it is a 4 hr drive from MIAMI--

Instead head for NAPLES FLA across Alligator Alley - 1 1/2 hr at the most driving time and a world of difference from the Keys and MIami-

Stay at either the RITZ CARLTON NAPLES- on Vanderbilt Beach or the REGISTRY INN-- Naples is FABULOUS--
Great restaurants on Fifth Avenue=Wonderful shopping and the BEST white sand beaches!!!

Linda: Ab is right. The bikers will congregate in Key West (MileMarker0.) And it's not really as terrible as it sounds....

That will leave you neat places to visit from Key Largo (MM106) to Bahia Honda State Park (about MM37.)

Good places to overnight are at Kay Largo, Islamorada and Marathon.

And you can be in Key Largo inside 1.5 hours from Miami.
I can't speak from experience, because I've never been to the key during bike week but I have bee to the keys and they are small so I can't imagine having to share it with all those loud and fast bikes especially with the traffic they could cause. I agree with going to Naples it is STUNNING and quiet. There are alot of fabulous restaurants on fifth ave and the people are really nice. Another fabulous place is Sanibel and Captiva Island (they are connected)lots of peace and quiet. The best place to eat is R.C.otter's. Looks like it's just okay but the food is great and not too pricey.Hope this helps
