A bit early for major tanning, but you might bring some sunscreen for your arms and face if you burn easily. As I mentioned before, there is a CVS in the basement of my building (the tallest one downtown and near your hotel) and you could buy sunscreen there if you need it.

Just had a look at the earthcam in the 6th floor museum showing the view in Dealey Plaza from the window that LHO had,(allegedly)the weather looks nice and sunny,have sent the website to my daughters so that they can see us when we are there,have to remember the 6 hour time difference!!
Have picked up some more dollars,now have 5 ,10 and 20 dollar bills, are there a lot of coins? what is a nickel and a dime?I thought that there were 5 . 10 ,25 and 50 cent coins as well as 1 and 2 dollar coins I have heard something about golden or silver eagles??
Can anyone tell me where the building is in Walker that is supposedly the rangers headquarters.it is a large building with lots of steps,is it in Dallas or Fort Worth?

Weather is nice although constantly changing. It will only warm up to about 60 degrees F today and get down to 32 degrees F tonight. It looks like it will warm up to the 70s during your visit.

Have found a 10 day weather forecast and if it is to be believed the temperature will be 70+ and sunny for the 4 full days that we are there so may have to rethink the wardrobe!!
What is the view on wearing shorts,not very short ones but 3/4 length ones especially in restaurants and bars??
We will be there in 4 days now and hopefully have everything sorted out.
Sunday seems to be a bit of a problem day as not many places seem to be open,after church at 11 am we are at a bit of a loss as where to go,I was thinking of lunch in Reunion Tower????
After that what is there to do until about 7 pm when I believe it goes dark.
It has been suggested that Gilleys is a good place to go ,is it easy to get a cab back to the hotel from there??

Lunch at Reunion Tower would be nice; the food is not bad for a "top of the tower" restaurant.

I guess my first choice for Sunday afternoon if the weather is nice is to take a cab to the Dallas Arboretum.

Another option: Spend an hour or so at the Nasher Sculpture Center.

Another option: After church, take a cab to Chuy's for yummy Mexican food in a fun atmosphere. It's at Knox and McKinney-not far from downtown. After lunch, you can shop at Z Gallerie, Crate & Barrel and have some frozen custard at Wild About Harry's.

Another option: Take a cab to the West Village, do a little shopping, then go to a movie and eat dinner.

Dallas is a casual town. Pack some shorts for sight-seeing if the weather stays night. Pack longer trousers in case it cools back down. March can be VERY iffy.

You can call a cab from Gilley's. If you like the cab driver that dropped you off, keep his card and call him back for a pickup.

I'll have to check, but it may be brunch only at Reunion Tower on Sunday - probably a buffet of some sort around $20/person. Heard the food is so-so.

*Nasher is wonderful and you can lunch there on the terrace.
*Chuy's is a fun place. And cruising around Knox-Henderson area looking at the shops, etc. And always frozen custard Harry's.
*Arboretum if it's nice and they have a cafe where you can get lunch.

Sometimes Gilley's can be dead - you might want to check and see if there is a band or other event. Some people show up and are disappointed nothing is going on.

Re shorts: Mornings could be cool. Yesterday it was about 32 F (0 C) when we left for church in the morning; by the afternoon it was in the low 70s and gorgeous. I'd hate to leave the hotel in the morning in shorts.

Even though the weather is forecast to be 70+ in the day, the night will be much cooler. That may preclude wearing shorts at night for dinner. Something to think about.

I'll be in Dallas for a long weekend too and am so excited because Dallas Blooms begins at the Arboretum March 10. It's located on White Rock Lake and just a beautiful location. It can get crowded, and as you have 5 days, you would be better off going a week day, rather than the weekend, especially opening weekend!

I don't know about low to mid 70's being shorts weather...especially Dallas, which can be very windy so 70 might feel more like 60 (to me)! Actually, I'm packing warmer clothes, including sweaters! :)

I probably shouldn't say this as my DH opened that hotel way back in the dark ages of 1978, but I'm not a huge fan of Reunion Tower. Now if it were located in San Francisco or the like that'd be one thing but Dallas is flat as a pancake and other than the very attractive downtown skyline, there is just miles and miles of sprawl to look at.

But I think dabber would be interested in the miles and miles of flat sprawl...I bet it's different than what he sees at home. Maybe not beautiful, but interesting. On a clear day you can see Ft. Worth, which is some 33 miles away. If you want to try for the sunset from there, go there about this time-6:15 pm.

And well he might, in which case, there is also the observation level in the "ball" which will give the same views at a fraction of the cost of an entrée in the restaurant. Antares is one of Hyatt's restaurants, and meals don't come cheaply there. That said, last time we ate there, 2 years ago, it was still surprisingly good, if costly. Cost to ride the elevator to the observation deck is $2 if you aren't a hotel guest.

Dabber......here are some great restaurants...just a cab ride away. Lola by Crescent Court Hotel, Al Biernat's on Oaklawn, Bice in Crescent Court, and Taverna on Knox-Henderson. You really need a car!!!

Or...dabber could go up to the Sky Lobby in a building on San Jacinto; across from Westin City Center - it's the building with the hole in the upper mid section. Just walk to the elevators and look for the sky lobby signs. It's free!!!

And...doesn't daylight savings start this Sunday? Something dabber might want to know.
