Trip To Bryce Canyon National Park

We are planning a trip to Bryce Canyon. We want to know if the route we are planning is safe (no high drop offs) . We are starting out in St. George, up Route 15 to Highway 20, then onto Route 89 south to Highway 12 east and then Bryce Canyon. Any scary roads in Bryce?

Coming back we would like to get back on 89 south then Highway 9 through Zion. Thank you.

The Hwy. 20 route was advised to us as the quickest to Bryce. We took it back from Bryce and was very easy, not scary.

The roads in Bryce are fine. You will love it.

I think you have a great plan.

Your fear doesn't make a road unsafe.

None of the roads you mention are unsafe
although, like roads everywhere, they ARE
dangerous if you leave your lane and drive
off the side of the road or into oncoming
traffic..

You are the only person who can decide
if the roads you mention will scare you
since we all have different tolerances
for heights and edges.

If you have a fear of roads with steep
drop offs alonside, then I have to wonder
why you have chose canyon country as a
destination.

Perhaps someone with the same issue you
have will have more information on specific
stretches of road that will trigger your
anxiety. It is possible that the stretch
from Zion Tunnel into the canyon might "get
to you"....here's a look.

Thank you for the replies. I think we will be alright. Once before we drove through the tunnel in Zion and the switchbacks with no problem.

I was thinking of traveling from St. George up Route 15 to Highway 20, then onto Route 89 south to Highway 12 east and then Bryce Canyon.

But how about going from St. George through Zion Park, north on 89 the east on 12. Is this route better than the one mentioned above?

Your first option will probably be quicker time wise. The roads are more straight shots. The road thru Zion is, of course more scenic, but slower due to the tunnel, curves and traffic in the park.

I would take one route up and the other back to St. George.
