trip suggestion Mom and 14 year old - USA - only about 5 days -

Greetings!

Looking for trip suggestions in the great USA - departure city is DFW - time of year is winter - only have 5 days including travel days - looking for FUN. Daughter likes to shop, shows, spa, good food, nice hotel, - Mom likes shows, a little shopping, decent food, nice hotel, spas -

Only have 5 days -

We have been to Chicago, New York City (a possible but the winter concerns me), all over California (from CA just moved to DFW area last year).

Need to stay at Marriott property and fly on American Airlines (points) ... hitting a wall?

Thoughts...?

I should add - she has been to Washington DC twice - once with me, and once on a school trip as I thought that might be cool.

San Francisco or San Diego

Maybe Tucson, or somewhere like that in the SW.

Maybe The Keyes/Florida/Everglades.

You are probably to late for AA points. I always do mine exactly the 335 days(or whatever it is) the year before.

Definitely NYC. Stay at the Marquis again or another Marriott property. It's THE location that has all you are looking for. If you stay at the MM, most of what you want is right there. If the weather is bad/cold, take cabs or the subway. My nieces went every year for their annual shopping trip during the 2nd weekend in December. I've gone in winter more often than any other season - mainly due to January meetings and holiday trips.

Runners up would be Chicago or San Franciso, but IMO New York wins hands-down.

My first thought was Chicago. I love it more than NYC (which I love just not as much as Chicago).

If Jan or Feb i would do NYC and you will get huge hotel bargains as well as shopping, shows, hotels and food and spas and everything you can think of. If Dec - I would still do the same - if you can get a hotel at a decent price (unlikely).

Agree that air availability may be your limiting factor.

Weather delays and flight cancellations may turn a fun trip into a trip to h3LL.

I think you've been to San Francisco already.

Miami? Stay at South Beach?

Have you thought of a short cruise?

New Orleans?

I was thinking of New Orleans, too. Have you been to San Antonio?

I was thinking NO or Savannah or someplace like that, but I'm a huge history buff so maybe my ideas are a little off for what you and your daughter are looking for.

Portland? Seattle?

What about Santa Fe? I always think of the other SF when I imagine getting on a plane to unwind somewhere, anywhere else (still haven't been!).

Okay, I know you said US, but I went to Quebec City once for about five days in winter. Fabulous but very cold. I live in San Francisco and thought it was beautiful. A few pics of snowy-but-lovely:

Oops, I totally spaced the loving-shows part of your question. I've been to NYC in the dead of winter many times. Always, always fun. Just do it.

I also think New Orleans would be fun. Besides touring the city (wonderful food and boutiques and houses are so beautiful) you can take a swamp tour as well.

San Antonio? Usually great weather in the winter, and there are several nice Marriott properties along the Riverwalk. You actually would likely want to drive, not fly, since you will want a car to do shopping and sightseeing in San Antonio and the surrounding Hill Country.

I think the Arizona idea is good, even consider Sedona.
