Trip route to Mt Rushmore & Yellowstone
Hi! My husband, our 4 kids and myself will be taking a family vacation toward the end of July this year. We will be taking our motor home and hoping to see Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone. I've personally never seen either and neither have our kids. I would love suggestions on routes to take and other things to check out along the way. We will be leaving from Denver Colorado and returning there as well. We're hoping to do it in 7 days but we aren't completely restricted to just 7 days. Also this will be our 1st ever vacation in the motor home so suggestions on food, snacks & amounts would be awesome too. Our kids will be 15,10,5 & 1 if that helps with suggestions. Thank you in advance for your help in making our family vacation a reality.

Take at least one shakedown trip with the motor home before July.
Try to visit RMNP for at least overnight to make sure the AC and the refrigerator work well.
Plan on at least 7 hours driving time to get from Denver to Rapid City.

You may also want to visit Wall Drug and the Badlands while in the area.
On the way to Yellowstone, be sure to see Devil's Tower in NE Wyoming.
There is a small National Park in the SW part of South Dakota that you might want to visit. North of Hot Springs is Wind Cave NP.
Pack an ice chest with sodas and bottled water in addition to a refrigerator full of food that you and the kids like.

You can't visit both the Black Hills and Yellowstone NP in only 7 days when your trip begins and ends in Denver. You lose 1 day of vacation driving from Denver to the BH (7 hours) and another full day driving from YNP to Denver (10 hours). And you lose a 3rd day with your drive from the BH to YNP (8+ hours).
You should choose either the BH or YNP for your destination. I have been most recently to the BH/Badlands and I can assure you that you won't run out of things to see and do there for a full week.
I suggest you order the free South Dakota travel planner and see for yourself what's there in the BH:
