Trip report - Utah, Arizona and Nevada
 

Three weeks ago we made a family trip to Utah and Arizona, flying in and out of Las Vegas and driving to Zion, Bryce, Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Historic Route 66, and Hoover Dam. The coolest things we saw, which I knew nothing about before planning the trip were Antelope Canyon, and the elk at El Tovar.

We covered a lot of country in under a week, but I don't know when I will get to that region again. There are so many place I want to see and so little vacation time.

Sounds like a wonderful trip, I do love the elk near el Tovar. Next time take a hike down into the canyon a little way. It is wonderful to look up at the rim.

Enjoyed the photos. The ones of Monument Valley and Grand Canyon brought back memories. My only visit to Monument Valley was in 1965 with my parents. There was only two motels in Kayenta back then. We moved from Oklahoma to Arizona that year and traveled most of the way on Route 66.
The shot of Mary in the tree at the Grand Canyon made me nervous. I have a problem with heights and each time I went to GC I got an uneasy feeling around the edges even with the rails.
I suppose you got to listen to your dam guide tell you about the dam tour at Hoover Dam. :-)

Mary wasn't really that close to the edge in that photo. There were other times when she was closer than I liked and I didn't encourage her by taking photos.

The $17 one was not mine and options are very limited on that stretch of Utah highway:=)

Thank you, Michelle. They have been fairly short trips, but this has turned out to be a busy year.

There was a flash flood through Antelope Canyon this past weekend and the floor of the canyon is now 6' lower than when we were there last month.

Keith- I remember bookmarking your Paris report when you stayed at the Kensington. I see since then you have been back several times. Where do you like staying in Paris and what are your recommendations? In a nutshell. We are thinking of going back next June. Last there in 1994.

My most recent time in Paris was just overnight, flying in from Milan one afternoon and back to the US the next day. So we stayed at the Ibis Paris CDG Terminal hotel. It is not a place I would consider for seeing Paris.

The previous trip we stayed at the Hotel Brighton on Rue de Rivoli, which was a much nicer hotel than the Ibis or the Kensington. I thought it was good for the money and the location was excellent. Three years ago, it was 209 euros/night.

I was budgeting a little more this time, wanting it to be special. You may recall that I was a single traveler during the first trip to Paris. During this trip, I proposed at the Eiffel Tower: http://www.mightymac.org/london2010/10UK19.htm

Early in my trip planning, when I was considering Meteor Crater and Petrified Forest, Canyon de Chelly was a place I was considering visiting. Of the three, that is the only one which I regret not seeing.
