Thank you for your trip report. We've been to these fabulous places several times but always in mid-summer - read HOT - and i've often wondered what it would be like around spring break.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures, also.

sms73, Thanks for that trip report. Did you feel that you allotted enough time for everything you did?
We had planned a similar trip last year, and we're hoping to plan it again for early June 2009.

sms73,
We are heading to Zion/Bryce/Lake Powell/Grand Canyon this Thur for 10 days. We will begin & end in Las Vegas. The question I have is do I need to bring snow shoes for Bryce and Grand Canyon or our normal hiking shoes will work? I am confused about how many different types of shoes and warm weather clothes to bring along. Please advise. Lugging too much luggage is not fun but then we don't want to miss the opportunity to hike some trails and freeze. We live in N California and are not used to too cold weather.

svhansalias: We brought hiking boots with Gore-tex, which worked well because they were waterproof. They are not snowboots but they worked in snow and also worked in puddles and mud, which is what you are bound to have in GC and Bryce. Even though it is 10 days since we were in Bryce, I'm sure there is still some ice and lots of mud. Before we left, my husband was skeptical that it would be cold, but we were really glad we had parkas, gloves (mostly) and hats. Have a great time!
Samsaf: Of course I wished we had more time just about everywhere! Especially an extra day in Sedona for more hiking. In June, the weather in Bryce would be better, and another day there would be great. And I'm sorry that we couldn't take a day long float trip from Page. We don't like staying in one place for just one night but we wanted to see a lot. Good luck on your planning.

I know it has been quite awhile since you posted your trip report, but I have to say I have loved reading it.Since my husband and I are going to Arizona in February I have been looking back between here and trip advisor. I figure the weather will be cold and maybe snow at the Grand Canyon, and neither one of us are hikers (my husband ran in the NYC Marathon, many, many, years ago, but need to live in the present) I wanted to ask about trails, that don't require worrying about climbing, walking is preferred. We will be staying at the Bright Angel as I felt it would be nice to be in the Park and as close to the rim as possible, hope that is a good choice. Again I hope you get to read this because of the time lapse, I enjoyed your report so much and I look forward to anything you might have to add.

An easy walk:
We took the hikers bus out to the top of the Kaibab Trail, half of our group hiked down to Phantom Ranch and the rest of us walked back along the rim--really wonderful walk.
We also hiked the Bright Angel Trail partway down--not as steep at the top as the Kaibab.
Click on my name for my trip report. We went in March 2007.
You didn't mention if you were also including Sedona. I have also reported on a February trip that we did there. Lots of very nice easy hikes in Sedona. See www.hikearizona.com for great hike reviews.
