Great trip report, Monica. I have the recipe for Colonial Williamsburg's peanut soup if you want it.

Oooh, yeah, that would be cool. Can you email it to the address you get at the bottom of our Webpage (in the lower right)?

I enjoyed your trip report too, Monica, for all three places! You all really packed in a lot of activities during your visit.

I assume in part you picked the hotel in DC b/c it had a pool for the girls to use. That part of SW Washington is primarily office and day use so while it's a great location for everything on the National Mall, it's a little lacking in interesting full service restaurants in the evening. If you have a chance to come back, there is an Embassy Suites with a pool on 22nd Street NW and the Palomar on P St. NW also with one. Both of those are close to many great places to eat.

obxgirl, well, that and have you ever stayed in a residence inn? It's more of an apartment than the Embassy Suites are. Plus I was bent on racking up points on this trip. But yeah, the lack of services around the hotel was a bummer.

Nice report - thanks. Hope the points racked up were worth a stay in the SW government office building gulch. If you ever return, I have all sorts of restaurant recs - including some excellent ones that can accommodate the pickiest eater.

Also glad you did the Brooklyn Bridge walk. I consider it a top 5 attraction in NYC but very few tourists seem to do it...

bardo1, thanks for the offer for help next time! I will think twice about staying in that same area. Should have done more research on restaurants before we left, I was so focused on NYC that I gave DC short shift.

I have stayed at RI's and I agree they are quite spacious compared to some other "suites" hotels. I completely empathize with the idea of being able to close the door on the kids in another room and decompress with a glass of wine.

Cheers to you and, again, great report. Glad that rodent thing got fixed. Ugh, just ugh on that one.

obxgirl, yeah, they trapped 11 of them! And now we have vent covers so hopefully we will never have that problem again.

A memory of Williamsburg...becoming intoxicated drinking the tavern's hard cider! Actually we have other memories as well of that wonderful historic place. Anyway, Monica, I do compliment you on your trip reports...and with two youngsters. What great family vacations. Ours with three kids (oldest now 55) were many years ago camping all over the U. S. and now much older we still travel here and there!
