trip report - new Intercontinental Hotel in Boston

Stayed there last night. What a fine hotel! The lobby is absolutely gorgeous and in a modern and unfussy way...

The rooms are wonderful. The bathrooms incredible, a full soaking tub and a seperate shower - lots of space in the bathroom, not cramped at all.

Nice flat screen tv in the bedroom and a generous sized desk. Comfortable bed, lots of lighting options included reading lights as well as full sized lamps on both sides of the bed.

The hotel is not officially open so it wasn't very crowded and thus very quiet (which suits me).

We ate lunch at Miel and had a phenomenal meal. I chose the Chef's Quartet (four dishes served on small plates on one larger plate and served all at the same time - this was a Provencale tomato salad, halibut, Pistou Soup, and a wonderful dessert of a cake with warm chocolate inside and with rasberry sauce on the side). My husband had the trios of burgers as well as 1/2 dozen oysters.

I stayed at the hotel on my own, however, my husband and daughter dropped me off and had lunch with me and a swim before leaving. THe valet parking attendant was nice enough to hold the car for us so that they didn't have to park (at $39) - we just gave him a nice tip which was a fraction of the parking cost.

The swimming pool, fitness facilities and locker rooms are all wonderful. We had the pool to ourselves. These spaces all overlook the front of the hotel which will be a beautiful park once the big dig stuff is FINALLY complete. It was a very nice view of the buildings in the financial district from the swimming pool (including my husband's office!! - sort of strange).

When I checked out, I mistakenly forgot my coat in the room and left my key in the room. I came downstairs to ask for another key to retrieve my coat and was told not to worry someone would run up and get it for me - what service!

I stayed here on a $149 rate through Travelzoo - I think this rate is available until the hotel has their grand opening in March.

I am a bit of a bargain hunter, so I am guessing once they are up and running the hotel will be beyond my pocket, so I am so happy I got to stay here at such a good price.

I highly recommend this hotel.

mama - thanks for the trip report. We'll be staying in a few weeks, thanks to your great tip on the Travelzoo rate.

That great rate is no longer available on Travelzoo unfortunately!

one interesting thing I noticed about the hotel is that everything had a uniformally modern feel (without being too much), with exception of the restaurant Miel. It felt like someone entirely different concepted the look compared with EVERYTHING else.

The design of the restaurant was old fashioned Provencale, but in my opinion could have easily been Provencale with a modern twist vs. your grandmother's Provencale.

Boy, I would love to know what the designer was thinking when they put that restaurant together in that hotel - to me, a big disconnect, the design, not the food --- again, the food was incredible, really one of the best meals i've had in a long time.
