Trip Report-20th Anniversary
Hi everyone,
First, thank you all who helped me with our Washington D.C. Anniversary Trip. When we drove into Maryland, I put the GPS on to Washington and my hubby was totally surprised, as I had hoped. The location of the Hotel Monaco in the Penn Quarter was outstanding. We were able to walk to the Mall, restaurants, metro and even the spy museum and the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery. We parked our car and did not use it again until we left. When we got tired from walking, we were able to ride the Circulator Bus around the Mall and up to our Hotel. For $1 you can ride the Circulator the entire day and get on and off. While limited in where it goes, it is great for what it does. We ate at Jaleo-excellent, Zola, very good and Tosca. Tosca was outstanding and a little more pricy then I had thought it would be. Coming from the NY area, that is saying alot. It was worth it as the food, service and our special table were fabulous. As far as the sights, we were so in awe. The marble buildings are enough to take your breath away. In our short weekend stay, we went to the Capitol, Supreme Court, Air and Space Museum, on Friday. Museum of American History and was closed, unfortunatley. At night, we took a private tour of the monuments stopping to see the Jefferson, the FDR, Iwo Jima and WW II. We then drove thru Georgetown and went to see the White House. I forgot to ask to see the Kennedy Center-oh well, next time. On Saturday, we went to the National Archives-a stop everyone should make, the Lincoln Memorial, the WWII, the Viet Nam Memorial and the WWII memorial. We did not get to the Hollicaust museum. Next, we went back to the Penn Quarter and took the red line metro to the zoo. We saw the Pandas and the Cheetahs. Then, a snack, back home and rest. Sunday, we drove up to Baltimore and the National Aquarium and Seaport and then home. We are both still exhausted but thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Washingtonians were very nice and helpful to us. I honestly think everyone should go to Washington at least once-it is by far one of the most amazing places I have ever been. Karan |
Great report on one of the most beautiful cities in the USA. Happy anniversary.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to DC! After living here for 9 years, I'm still in awe of how beautiful it is...especially lit up at night. So glad to hear you made it to FDR at night - my favorite spot. Congrats on your anniversary!

Hello...Nice report. Probably this is not the exact posting for a GPS, but I noticed you used one and was wondering what kind it was. I am in the market for one after hearing all the rants and raves on Fodor's and think I possibly might NEED one. Thanks much but sorry for the insertion. ((b))

karan- Thanks for the report and the memories as DD and I chose D.C. for our Spring Break get-a-way this year. We too thought the National Archives were amazing and well worth our time with so many other places to visit. The Cherry blossoms on the Tidal Basin full in full bloom and it was magical. What a nice way to celebrate your anniversary, good times and great memories.
