Trip ideas from NYC...
My husband and I will be going to NY from FL for two weddings one week apart. Since we are both from the NYC/lower Hudson Valley area, we don't want to spend the in-between time in the NYC/lower Hudson Valley area. We have already gone to Philadelphia, DC, Baltimore, and Montreal. We live near the beach so we aren't interested in Cape May or Ocean City. We were thinking about Toronto but that may be to far.
Anybody have any ideas for a vacation for 7 days? We are not adverse to flying, cruises, or driving. However, we are of course on a budget ($300 for car/airfare, $1200 for hotel, $500 misc) and would have to be back by September 3, 2005. Thanks |

Boston seems an obvious possibility. You could do Toronto if you fly. The most affordable way to do that would be fly to Buffalo and drive from there. (good prices on Jet Blue, American and maybe Continental). I think you should also look at air/hotel pkgs to Toronto. Be flexible about your individual budgets (ie $300 for transportation limits you but you may be able to do with less for hotel etc.)

How about this. Rent a car and go long...perhaps Ogunquit Maine for 3 nights.....you can explore Kennebunkport, York, and just enjoy the rocky coast of Marginal Way.......from there start your trip back, with 2 nights in Boston, as it seems you haven't explored this great walking city....then a 2 night finish in Newport RI, or Watch Hill and the casinos........

Toronto is actually not that bad a drive (9 hours or so) - esp with two drivers - and you can easily do Niagara Falls - and anything you fancy in upstate NY (Cooperstown?) on the way. Plus you have the benefit of the feeble Canadian dollar (still worse than the US - the last time we were there we got the Sheraton for I think $79 per night)
Agree that a combo of Boston and a couple of days in Maine would also work very well - but would probably be more pricey. |
Thanks everyone. We actually found excellent airfare less than $200 per person to fly to Toronto, and I learned my husband really wanted to go there. So now we are planning our trip there from Aug. 28 to Sept 3. We will not be renting a car. If anyone has any ideas of things to do or places to stay (less than $150USD) let me know...

Since you're going to Toronto, you should post on the Canada board ;)
