Trip from Anchorage to Homer, AK

I am traveling from Anchorage to Homer, Alaska driving down via AK 1s. I will be staying three nights in Homer. I am looking for suggestions for places to stay in Homer. Can be simple, close to downtown, bar, etc. is nice. Also, anywhere you suggest I stop en route that might have a great place to eat, view, etc. Also, I could stay one night en route if there was a really spectacular hotel to stay at along that route. I am a woman traveling alone FYI. Thanks in advance!

Enroute, Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, for someplace spectacular.
In Homer, check out Land's End.

Mt Alyeska is gorgeous. Another nice place to stop is the Kenai Princess Lodge in Cooper Landing. You can eat at their restaurant and bar even if you aren't staying there. Great view from their deck.

We stayed here: http://www.homerbb.com/ It's up the hill from the 2 small streets that constitute Homer's downtown (there isn't one, the Spit has more options clustered about).

Would stay there again.

One of the most fun things we did in Homer was a boat trip to Halibut Cove with dinner at the Saltry restaurant. You go over on a boat called the Danny J- dinner at a beautiful restaurant on the water- has a big outdoor fireplace

Make reservations as soon as you know dates- very popular.

We stayed at the Alaskan Suites- cute clean cabins overlooking the bay. They have a kitchen, great views- would stay there again
