Trip for kids to see snow?

We live in Orlando and would like to drive to take our 10 year-old son to see snow. Our plan is to go sometime in March and thought a place in North Carolina might be a good choice. We'd like to be able to go sledding or tubing but don't plan to go skiing. We'd love some suggestions for places that might work for us, including family-friendly places to stay!

You may want to try somewhere above Asheville, but March is getting a little late for a lot of snow.

very doubtful that you'd see snow in March in the Asheville area though I guess there'd be a chance of it higher up in Boone/Blowing Rock. We've had a really warm winter. Check with some of the slopes...Banner Elk, Wolf Laurel etc and see if they are making snow.

Thanks for your replies. I've been to Boone before and I believe that's close to the Banner Elk area. Any suggestions on places to stay?

JAKcruiser-
You are more than welcome to come to Massachusetts to give your son the
'snow shoveling experience!'

JAKCruiser, sorry, I have to copy LEAKYTIKI1 and suggest a trip to Wisconsin. I promise you will see snow anytime from Nov. until about end of April. We never melt.

As wonderful as seeing snow in Wisconsin sounds, I think we'll have to pass. I grew up in the Northeast and have not been sad that I go each winter without seeing snow. My son, on the other hand, really wants to see snow.

During the last couple of winter trips we've taken up north, we "enjoyed" cold temperatures but no snow. With booking flights, we always have to plan in advance and as we can't predict the weather, we don't want to chance a "snowless" trip again.

We figured this time, we'll see if there is anywhere we can drive to during his winter vacation. If there is no snow right before we're scheduled to go, we can cancel the trip without a big financial loss.

So that's our snow saga! We'd still love any suggestions of places to stay in NC though!
