Trip for 21 year old blind son

Any ideas for a trip to celebrate my 21 year old son's birthday??? It is not as easy as it seems. You see he is blind. We are trying to think of something he would enjoy that does not involve too much sightseeing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I like the idea of a music festival. When is his birthday and how far are you willing to travel? What kind of music does he like?

Hello dchoate, I was going to suggest Austin but I see you have already received that idea. What made me think of it is that one of my stepgrandson's went to Austin when he was 22 years old and ended up staying there for a year. He absolutely loved Austin. He and your son have very similar interest. Wishing your son a special and happy 21st birthday. He sounds like a fun and interesting young man.

Yes, a music festival or an atmosphere where there is alot of street entertainment (New Orleans comes to mind) sound good. I'm trying to think of places where the other senses would be stimulated and seems like music would be an obvious choice. I've never really known any blind people so excuse my ignorance...what is it about mountains that he likes better than the beach? Is it the smells or the sounds, the feel of the water?

Checkout bluegrass festivals if he likes that kind of music. They can be constant music for days and days. And they're not held just in the mountains.

tO zelphiacat.... We live in La so he has been to New Orleans oodles of times!!! He is not fond of sand and extreme heat of the beach. He enjoys the coolness and pristene air in the mountains. He also enjoys the coziness of a cabin and crackling fireplaces

My first thought was Pacific Northwest, but I have no specific idea of music festivals there. However, a quick google search indicated there are several in Portland and Seattle this summer/early fall.

You are close to mountains, weather is coolish but variable enough to be interesting. Narrated Seattle harbor cruise might be enjoyable and there is plenty of interesting food in either place. If he is into sports, Seattle Mariners baseball.

EMP is a contemporary/rock music museum where one gets individual headsets and can select amount of info of interest or specific exhibits/artists. It has been a while, but I remember the narration as being vivid enough to make the visual parts of the museum secondary - after all, it is a music museum.

And most 21 year olds enjoy food - there are plenty of varied options. Personally, I strongly prefer Seattle over Portland, but there are those here who might disagree.

How about the Breckenridge, CO music festival? Great setting in the mountains, all types of music, fun town, and cool weather.
