trip choices

I have to choose between the two following trip possibilities. Since I've never been to either destination, I'm hoping one, or more,of you seasoned travelers can help me choose:

San Antonio , Jan. 12th-15th, 2006 or

Seattle, Wash., July 9-13, 2005

Since I'm from Connecticut, I'd be getting a break from either the cold winter weather of January, or the heat and humidity of July! I guess another consideration would be: when in January, 2006 would parts of the Riverwalk area be drained, for annual maintenance? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Perfect time of the year for Seattle - highs in the upper 70's or so, low humidity, usually bright blue skies.

Since San Antonio isn't that warm in January, upper 50s low 60s daytime high with the night time lows dropping into the 40s, I'd go for July in Seattle.

Otherwise, those two cities are apples and oranges.

Guess that's two votes so far for Seattle! Thanks!

In San Antonio, we experience some of the best weather in January--sunny, cool days but we do get arctic blasts that time of year so it can get down right cold. January is when I get to use our deck, sit outside in the sun without it being offensive. And oh, how I love Seattle--it's one of my favorite cities...decisions, decisions.

That's easily the best time to visit Seattle. Historically dry yet usually mild, plus there is just a much greater variety of things to do -- even on a short visit.

So far, it's 3 for Seattle, and 1 tossup. Thanks for the input, and keep them coming!

I like San Antonio a lot but choosing brtween it in January and Seattle in July, Seattle is a no-brainer for me.

Find someone who knows south Texas and ask them what a "blue norther" is.

Another vote for Seattle. More to do there than you can do in a lifetime of living there.

dcespedes Nov 24th, 2004 10:24 AM

It doesn't happen very often but I had a thought--the San Antonio River is drained each year for maintenance and it is reported every time that the out of town tourists are disappointed to see the River Walk without water...except last year, one couple said they came to see it empty. According to the S.A. Chamber of Commerce the 2005 river clean up is scheduled during the time you would potentially be here so I'm off the fence, go to Seattle and enjoy a fabulous time!

dwooddon--we've lived in San Antonio 15 years and I'm not sure I've ever heard the term blue northern--is it the same as a northern?

thedoctor49 Nov 24th, 2004 12:10 PM

So far, the vote is 6 for Seattle and one toss-up - guess it's a no-brainer!
Would you guys still feel the same ,if the chioce was between Seattle in July and San Antonio in late September, rather than January ( probably still kind of hot (90+) that time of year )?

Aaaccckkkkk! Make a decision doc! Please make a decision.

I need a ((D))

dcespedes Nov 24th, 2004 12:29 PM

GT, you are on a roll today :-D

San Antonio in September I cannot recommend. Ooooh, the annual River Mud Festival is scheduled January 13-16th...there's your deciding factor, by golly!

ok, guys! I totally agree - final tally is 6 votes for Seattle and 0 for San Antonio! I'll give you guys a rest, before bugging you about what to do and see there, etc! My conference choice hotel locations are either downtown Seattle or the Doubletree in nearby Bellevue - any opinions about which is preferable?

I just came back from San Antonio and I must say that I was quite disappointed. We were there on business 2 days and stayed an extra 2 nights to see the city. I wish we would have left after the business part. Maybe it was due to the weather as it rained the whole time but we had nothing to do. We saw the Alamo, the riverwalk and the Mercado and although the riverwalk was lovely it gets old after a few days. Go to Seattle we loved it there!
