trip choice: san antonio vs. phoenix this Fall

I have to choose between several business conferences to attend this Fall:

3rd week in October - San Antonio, or 2nd week in November - Phoenix

I've been to both destinations approx. five (5) years ago (actually Scottsdale rather than Phoenix) I enjoyed taking a side trip to Sedona and several other touristy spots (Talisien West, Tortilla Flats, etc.). In San Antonio, I stayed on the Riverwalk, which was great, saw a few Missions and went to a local Mexican market/shopping area, but didn't really venture too much from the Riverwalk area.

Any and all suggestions/votes would be greatly appreciated! :)

Can you arrive a day or 2 early or spend a few days after the conference? I would try to make it to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon from Phoenix. I think you have seen the best parts of San Antonio. Are you flying or driving from home?

I agree that it sounds like you have already seen the best of San Antonio. If you have some time before or after the conference, I'd recommend renting a car and spending a few days in the Hill Country (e.g. Fredericksburg) and/or Austin.

I live in Phoenix area and also know San Antonio. I'd guess you've seen the best of SA at this point. Since moving here from Chgo, I'm surprised at how much there is to do in this area. Will you have a car? Nov. is a beautiful time of year. Going N 2 hrs is Sedona for its beauty and Flagstaff, a university town of tall pines.1.5 hrs. south is Tucson with the wonderful Desert Zoo, good Mexican food, pretty drive up to Mount Lemmon and hiking as well. Also SE is Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior and Globe,AZ. Scottsdale has LOTS of shopping and great restaurants. There's something for everyone..just depends on what you're looking for.

Thanks for the suggestions! Looks like, at this point, Iwon't have a choice, so I'm headed back to San Antonio.
