Trip advice for New Orleans
Hi ALL

I am trying to plan a trip to NO the 1st weekend in January for my birthday/anniversary. I got a good price for the Royal Sonesta Hotel and wonder if there are any opinions out there. I was looking for a hotel that was right in the middle of things, so we might not have to rent a car.

Alos, I am trying to find 3 great restaurants I stand a chance of getting a reservation in? any suggestions? I have re-read old posts and have some ideas but I havent researched them enough to know which are the best.

Thanks for yor help in advance
Juli

I love the Royal Sonesta, and it's definitely right in the middle of things. Having said that, unless you don't mind being up until the wee hours of the morning, you should request a room overlooking the courtyard/pool rather than Bourbon Street. As for restaurants, everyone has a favorite. Personally, I can't imagine a trip to NO without a weekend jazz brunch at Commander's Palace. To me, that IS New Orleans!

I went to a New Orleans restaurant called GW Fins in May, 2001. My meal there was excellent, better than Commander's Palace, Emeril's, and (certainly) Antoines. It's in the French Quarter at 808 Bienville Street. (504-581-FINS).

That said, I'd still want to go to Commander's Palace, as well.

I found a good website (I think it's insideneworleans.com), with restaurant rankings and reviews by Tom Fitzsimmons(sp). It may be useful to you.
Gallatoires---no reservations, a classic, very close to your hotel. Bayonna--the "favorite" of many(res required)again very near your hotel.Nola----Our favorite Emeril restaurant(need res)again right around the Sonesta. All are less than a five minute walk from the Sonesta and you won't be disappointed in any of them..

I reread your post and noticed birthday/anniversary. In that case--the Garden room at Commanders Palace(call now !!)in the Garden District(10 min cab ride). Enjoy the Quarter.

Stayed at the Royal Sonesta in room w/ balcony overlooking Bourbon--it was great. Galatoire's is just across the street and has great food (jacket required). Parking is $20 at the Royal Sonesta and a car is really not needed.
