Trilogy vs Paragon???
 

Hi all--

I'm planning our October trip to Maui (Wailea and Kaanapali using lots of Marriott points) and am wondering if anyone has taken either Trilogy or Paragaon Charters to Lanai for the day. I'm reading that Trilogy does not always sail and they can be a bit "reserved". Paragaon states that they sail and have a much smaller capacity. They sound great. Are they? I'd sure appreciate any guidance here. Thanks. Jan

We enjoyed Trilogy very much - first class. We did sail on the way back, and it was exhilarating!

It's been a while since our excursion to Lanai with Trilogy but we thought they were great. Not at all "reserved".

Thanks for your help. As I just read on another post that the Paragon boat capsized in March, the decision may have been made for me! Jan

The one thing I've read about Trilogy is that they MAKE you wear life vests/belts regardless of your swimming ability. That doesn't sound like much fun to me since you won't have the mobility in the water that you would without flotation equipment. Is this indeed a true statement?

Actually I received no supervision from them at all during the snorkeling part of the trip. - Which is my only complaint about them since I was a new snorkeler. It looked to me like people were doing what they wanted to regarding floatation.

We loved our Trilogy experience. We did not wear life vests. Loved sailing back. It was a very relaxing trip.

We went with Paragon on our honeymoon and enjoyed it immensely. It was more intimate than Trilogy. Paragon and Trilogy are definitely the best two, that was readily apparent. What I liked about Paragon was that the boats were smaller and less crowded, more intimate-- the Trilogy boats looked crowded and were larger. On the trip we took to Lanai, dolphins were all over the place on the way over, so the crew decided to spend extra time on the way over for us to enjoy the dolphins. We had breakfast on the way over, a wonderful picnic lunch and all the drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) we wanted. On the way back, we also had champagne and dessert. We stopped in a cove to snorkel on the way over, and on the way back, they cut the motor and sailed, and stopped for everyone to swim in the crystal blue water. It was the best day of our entire trip to Maui!

When did you take your trip? What time of year, and how long ago if you don't mind me asking?

We used Paragon in January 2003 for our Molokini snorkeling trip. We loved it! There were only about 15 people and the boat could carry upwards of 30 so we had a really small fun group of people on the boat. The Captain (Mike) and his sidekick were so fun and really helped to make it a great trip. Fantastic snorkeling and as we were there in January, we saw quite a few whales. We would use them again in a second!!

We took our trip in July of 2002 for our honeymoon.

Wow! Thanks to all of you for your thoughts. I think we might go with Paragon because of the smaller numbers. (And the champagne on the way back doesn't hurt!) It sounds as if either company would give us a fantastic day. I'm counting the days! (sigh)
