TRIKING - Has no one else experienced this joyful ride?

Before my trip I asked this question, and now upon my return, I must say I not only loved my first 1 1/2 hr with Gerry in Kauai, but also my second 1 hour with Armon in Hana. Adventures like this have no cost....priceless!!! My next trip out I will be in the flyers seat!!! Woooo hoooo!!!! Flying like a bird - priceless!!!!

Aloha!

gyppielou: What is triking?

gyppielou Dec 30th, 2003 01:17 PM

Triking is power hang gliding, many are built in Australia...you fly with an instructor in a propelled hanglider. In Kauai, check out Gerry at Birdsinparadise.com --822-5409, or, on Maui, Armin in Hana.....572-6557....words cannot describe how wonderful this is....I spent alot of money loving every moment, hoping to do it again!!!! Flying once --- amazing---flying twice --- priceless!!!!!!!!!!! Next flight - in the front seat ---- flying!!!!! Check it out!!

Me thinks gyppielu might have flown too high!!! or has too much information on hand for someone who just tried hang gliding!

Maybe gyppielou has a vested interest!! Hmmmm?

Gyppielou:

So sorry! Not my style to attack! Although it was not quite an attack!
I will change my ways next year!
Happy New Year!

gippylou-that sounds awesome! You sound as enthusiastic as I felt the first time we did a helicopter tour. I remember being totally charged by the experience and I told people about it like a preacher because I was so pumped up. I showed my husband your post and I think he may do this on our next trip in November. I am way too chicken to even consider it for myself! Good for you to be living life to its fullest, Aloha and happy trike dreams!

mahalo bmw and alohamom, your husband will love it, I'm sure. I think it is something, that when you see it, you either MUST do, or will not do. I am a full fledged fanatic! I admit it, guilty as charged. Alohamom, I would suggest Kauai as the better scenic trip, although Armon is a wonderful teacher, and who I would go in the flyer's seat with. Aloha, G

I was interested in this trip after seeing it on a TV show on Hawaii. I sent them an e-mail, which they never replied to. I thought, OK I'll do the helicopter trip instead.

Then I read Kauai Revealed and the author is also a trike pilot and highly recommends Birds in Paradise. I went to their website and it talks more about an intructional tour, not a sight-seeing tour. Making me re-think again.

Was yours really a tour? Where did you go in Kauai?

Gyppielou, we're considering this too instead of the Chopper. Can you please give more details. Thanks.

Hey everyone, so happy to read interest. When I first posted about triking it went dead in the water. Your flight will be as educational as you want it to be. Since it will most likely be you're first time on a Trike, kicking back and taking it all in is fine. I'm sure every flight is different, depending on the winds and time. We took off from Port Allen, headed over Waimea, then hit the Napali Coast and Princeville, cut thru to check out the crater, and then swung by Poipu heading back to PortAllen. On Maui, we hung mostly in the Hana and crater area, as tradewinds prevent a fuller island tour. We also flew thru and above the clouds - too cool to try to put into words! And then killed the engine and glided home. My opinion is, if you have no fear, and you can afford it, then why wouldn't you? It is probably the safest ultralight flying you can do, and hugging the clouds, feeling the condensation at your fingertips - priceless. I think I answered the question??? And if I ever see flights available in the mainland deserts, yes I will do it again, It is said to be just as amazing in its own way. Mahalo
