Trendy San Fran Restaurant

We are looking for a trendy restaurant for dinner in San Francisco. Any recommendations?

We also would like a recommendation for a cool sushi spot and a cool Chinatown spot.

Thanks!

I enjoyed a great meal at LuLu in SOMA last week (Folsom Street). Amazing wine list with extensive by-the-glass selection.

On Union Street, Betelnut is always filled with a hip, young crowd.

Enjoy!

"On Union Street, Betelnut is always filled with a hip, young crowd."

Thanks for the compliment Gekko. I eat there a lot when I'm in the neighborhood.

Ace Wasabi's in the Marina is the hot, trendy sushi joint. Or in the Mission district there is Blowfish, Sushi to Die For.

Asia de Cuba is very trendy and wonderful -- in the equally trendy Clift Hotel.

Delfina remains a hot and trendy spot without spending a fortune.

But Patrick, the crowd I'm talking about arrives after 5pm, about when you're taking your back pills and turning in for the evening.

Ha Ha! Joke.

Do not miss the Redwood Room at the Clift. For cool sushi
(funny, Patrick) check
out the Ozumo lounge

Gekko, but are the early bird special coupons still good after 5?

Gekko Feb 21st, 2005 07:48 PM

Only if you flash your AARP card.

But Betelnut is great, isn't it? In early February I had a most amazing spicy shrimp appetizer. In that area, I also like the Getty family's Plump Jack.

Cortez is a trendy, attractive spot for "small plates". I agree with the recs for Delfina and Betelnut. Luna Park is always happening. Chez Papa is an excellent little French place.

Chez Papa,Luna Park,Cortez, Delfina are all trendy spots. For a more subdued but very good meal, try Quince. It's our new favorite. There is also a new Argentinian Steak House. I'll get back to you with the name.

Trendy is in the eye of the diner. What are your terms for trendy? What age crowd are you looking for?

PamSF Feb 21st, 2005 11:39 PM

"El Raigon" is the steak house. Post your question on www.chowhound.com and you'll get more in depth answers on some hole in the wall places as well as "highly trendy".
