Treetops Resort-Gaylord MI

Hi all,
Am looking at booking a week in July at the Treetops Golf Resort near Gaylord. I have two teenagers travelling with me. Is
this a good place to keep two boys busy for a week? Is the place in good condition?
Any other advice?
Thanks!

My family and I visit Treetops frequently in the winter for skiing. Treetops is about 10-15 minutes drive from downtown Gaylord. There may not be much for your teenagers to do other than play golf, swim, and play tennis at the resort. The resort itself is small and it okay condition for its size. Downtown Gaylord does have a movie theater and mini-golf. Also Otsego State Park is nearby which does offer canoeing and swimming. I am sure there is also horseback riding available nearby. A car will be required to go anywhere outside of the resort. Northern Michigan is beautiful however you do need a car to see most of it.

Thanks CDJD,
I was told that the lodge was the nicer place to stay because it was the
newest of all the buildings...have you
stayed in the Lodge? Do you have any experience with the pools...do they keep them in good shape? What is Gaylord like..can you compare it to any other city in Michigan?
Thanks for all the info!

Unfortunately I have not stayed in the Lodge itself. We always book the bunkhouses that are about 5 miles from the main Lodge. The bunkhouses log type cabins nestled back in the woods so we book these for the privacy. Unfortunately that also means that I do not have any experience with the pools either.

As for Gaylord itself, it is not similar to any other Michigan cities that I am aware of. The best description is a small Alpine village plucked from Scandinavia and put in Michigan. A lot of small ski/golf, knick-knack, clothing stores. Most of the shops are small boutiques. The entire downtown area is probably about 1/2 to 3/4 mile long.

Sorry I am not able to provide more specific info on the Lodge itself.

I live close to Gaylord and have been to several conferences at Treetops, but not stayed there, so I cannot speak to the accomodations. I think if you just want to go to a resort and stay the week on the grounds, golfing, swimming, etc., Treetops is fine. If you want to explore the area, Gaylord isn't really much, IMHO. Petoskey and Harbor Springs are much nicer...shops, restaurants, scenery (we DO have that big lake you know!) which Gaylord doesn't have. To me, outside of golfing, it doesn't really offer much.

I agree - Petoskey or Harbor Springs would be a better choice.

Gaylord is not the place to stay with teenagers. I would recommend the Traverse City area or the Leelanau Peninsula. These areas have much more to keep the whole family busy for a week.
