Treasure Island vs New Frontier vs Circus-Cicus

I know what you're thinking, what a big difference amongst the 3 hotels, but at the moment the exchange rate for Aussie Dollar isn't crash hot. However have heard many bad things about Cicus and especially Frontier.<BR>Should I just go for Treasure Island? We do want some place that's central to where all the main attractions are and clean rooms. Heard Frontier one's are dirty. Is there some truths to that?

May, have you tried checking sites like orbitz.com, lvrs.com and the various websites of hotels like New York New York, Harrahs, Luxor and Flamingo?<BR>You should be able to find something reasonable, unless you'll be visiting during a near sold out period.<BR>You'll regret Circus or Frontier.<BR>Treasure Island is fine, but often a bit more expensive than some other very clean Strip hotels.

Go for Treasure Island. Don't know about the Frontier, but Circus Circus is (or was 5 yrs ago) a dirty-seeming madhouse. No ambiance, very poor location; I wouldn't even take a child there now that I know better.....

I'd also look at the Flamingo. We just stayed there in February and liked it very much. Rooms are fairly spacious (Tho bathrooms are not) But it was clean and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and the pool area is huge. We paid $45/night.<BR><BR>I don't know the Frontier, but I'd definitely stay away from Circus.

Treasure Island, definitely. I haven't seen the rooms, but we had a great time gambling there--super nice dealers, etc. I've stayed at Circus Circus, and its okay for the money, but not great and poor location. Don't do Frontier.

Of that list, you have to stay at TI, the other 2 are not an option for a relaxing vacation.<BR><BR>I would check out Flamingo as (IMO) it's the best value on the strip with the best location.

Between the three you've listed, I would definitely stay at Treasure Island. The Frontier is ancient and stinks from decades of cigarette smoke. Circus Circus is also old, way at the far end of the strip and crowded with children. Treasure Island is much newer, nicer and located more toward the center of the action. There are other center strip hotels that offer good rates. Try Bally's (they often run $59 mid week specials) or Harrahs or the Flamingo Hilton.

Don't stay at Circus Circus, it was a madhouse full of children when my husband and I stopped in to check it out. Others have suggested the Flamingo as having an excellent location with reasonable prices, you may want to check it out. I stayed at the Mirage two years ago, the next time we go we want to stay more in the middle of the strip.

Checking individual hotel websites is a great idea!. I just booked Mandalay Bay for July 7th -12th on their site for only $79.00 per nite plus tax! Fantastic deal for that property!

May, I sympathize with your currency exchange rates; our Canadian cousins are, sadly, in the same situation.<BR>I, too, vote for T. I. over the other two you mentioned. Even if you're bringing the kids, I would still stay at T. I.<BR>Don't believe anyone has told you yet but you need to know prices at all hotel/casinos are significantly less when you stay Sunday thru Thursday nights. Exception to this recommendation is if there are MAJOR conventions in town which can cause prices to be higher; and, sometimes, much higher. In other words, Friday and Saturday night rates can often double and even be more than that. So if you can, time your visit accordingly.<BR>Every hotel/casino has its own website. Sometimes there are special promo rates on the individual hotel's websites that are lowest. You really have to shop around.<BR>There are several websites dedicated to Las Vegas. Two of them come quickly to mind:<BR><BR>www.lvol.com<BR><BR>Above website has a huge amount of info; be sure to check out some of the Trip Reports and click also on its Bulletin Board/Forum. There's also a section you can click on: 2002 Conventions -- so you can, if possible, plan YOUR trip to avoid a huge convention.<BR>Lots of helpful folks frequent 'lvol.'<BR><BR>www.cheapovegas.com<BR><BR>Don't be put off by its name; it has the most detailed descriptions of rooms, etc. on the Internet. Writing style can be 'tongue in cheek' -- but has excellent info.<BR><BR>So, good luck; have a great trip, and welcome.

Thanks to all who replied. I am confident now knowing that TI is the correct choice. Managed to book a room for hubby and myself for $65 Thurs and $95 Friday night. Was going to book for Wed night too but the rates increased by $10 (which means $20AUS) overnight! They wouldn't give us the $65 rate so we've decided to go with a different hotel for that one night. Bally's perhaps...<BR>Thanks once again!

are you sure you want to go through the hassle of checking out and checking in for one day to save $20?

x Apr 9th, 2002 08:23 AM

ditto on the hassle for $20..unless you have a car and it would be convenient...by the time you haul everything to another hotel and stand in line to check in,I don`t know if it would be worth it..there must be something going on in Vegas for the increase in price.....a cab ride to another hotel would cost 5 to 10 $$$....

Have always stayed at the Treasure Island. Price is great for a very nice room. They were completely refurbished a couple of years ago. Check out their web site for pictures. Also is linked by tram to Mirage which is linked by the Forum Shops to Caesars and on to Bellagio. Plus, you get priority for purchasing Cirque du Soleil tickets.

karl Apr 9th, 2002 08:32 AM

yes, I just got back from Treasure Island. I was there March 31-April 5. It was a very nice hotel with great rooms and a nice location. It was nice to have the tram connect you to Mirage and then Mirage was right next to Caesars. The best part was that you didnt have to walk 2 miles to get to the tram. It is practically right next to the casino. It is close to everything, but not too close so you can get away from all the people if you want to. any questions, let me know.
