Treasure Island vs MGM Grand
I am planning to stay in either one of them.
|
There both about the same in my opinion...I would go with the best deal.
|
Unless there was a serious price difference, I would probably go with MGM just because I like the location better -- there are more big casinos/hotels nearby. Treasure Island is sort of up at the north end of the central strip and there's not a lot worth visiting any further up.

I also like the fact that at MGM you're close to several useful monorails to save on some walking -- there's one connecting MGM and Bally's. On the opposite corner from MGM there's one that goes to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. If you cross the Strip and go up to the Monte Carlo (next to NYNY), you can catch one over to Bellagio. These trams allow you to cover some serious ground without walking too much.

Hi Go to Treasure Island if you want a tiny room and poor service

If I had to choose, I'd go with TI. MGM - huge, huge, huge. I was at the MGM for a weekend and, well, I was drinking when I was gambling. The place is so freaking huge that I got lost. I wasn't like Nicholas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas drunk, but had had enough that the place made me dizzy. It's got 5,000 rooms afterall. The TI isn't all that great, but the location is not bad at all and I enjoyed it when I stayed there. I never gambled there but enjoyed it. At the MGM, you're pretty much at one end of the strip. At the TI your're in the middle of it. Enjoy and go to www.vegas.com.
MGM's location is WORSE, not better.
Rich has it backwards.
TI is close to more good quality hotels than MGM.
|
Bea, you got it right! TI is in a great location, next to Mirage, accross from Venetian.

Mike, I also felt that the MGM was ridiculously big! Walking to the room took FOREVER! If we happend to forget something and had to go back to the room we dreaded it!

As for the price, I don't know when you are planning to go, but I got a 118.00 price at TI for a two bathroom suite! Check their website.

I stayed at the MGM Grand in October - and I definately would NOT recommend it. It was too far from mid-strip, and we spent a great deal of time just walking back and forth from our room to all of the places we wanted to visit in the middle of the strip. Also, we had a terrible view from our window. We could not see the strip at all. Our view pretty much consisted of the hotel roof, with those annoying green lights shining in your face at night. I totally agree with the other postings that complain about the hotel being too big. It took us forever to get from our room to the strip. The casino is also very smoky. I dont know if they have poor ventilation, but the other casinos did not seem nearly as smoke filled. I dont know what TI's rooms are like - but the location would definately be better. Have fun!
Terri

TI is definitely a better location than MGM Grand, but you can be sure that they will both be full of kids, if that's what you want. If not, go to Bellagio or Venetian, or even the Luxor.
|
Definitely stay at TI. My husband and I come every year. Last year was our first at TI and we loved it so much we are going again this year, even though the rates are alot higher. It's worth it!

Kevin,
Any follow up on this?
|
I stayed at the Treasure Island last March and loved the location, the bars, the casino, the service.. the room..
No complains at all..

But if I had to go to LV again, I would stay at Paris..
|
TI for sure. Those that recommended MGM, I can't figure them out.

TI has a WAY better location. Next to all of the outdoor street attractions like the Pirate show, volcano, fountains. It's got Caesar's nearby, Venetian.

TI also has a decent spa, and pool. The Swashbucklers Bar is also a nice low key bar for video poker. Right Tansy?

-Darvy

I stayed on both ends of the strip (Excaliber and Treasure Island) and liked the Treasure Island location better. You can walk up the strip toward the older, cheaper, and better pay-out casinos toward Stratosphere and you are still very close to the main strip. Treasure Island has decent sized, clean rooms. I would definitely stay there again.
