Treasure Island - Las Vegas
We've booked TI for an upcoming trip. Has anyone stayed there before? We've been to LV a few times, but haven't stayed at TI. Any recommendations for room requests/room location?
|
Hey Hip!
You are getting around!!:) I actually will be staying at the TI this Friday for 3 nights...I will let you know how it is.. I have heard nothing but good things about this hotel...you can go on this site to the talk page under hotels and get all the reviews..also www.tripadvisor.com it a GREAT site..and they have nothing but good reviews for TI as well... When are you going? |
Hip! Fancy meeting you here! :) We'll be going to LV 1st week in October (cheap rates for TI). We usually stay at Harrah's because of it's reasonable rates and being mid-strip. I haven't ever used Priceline for LV but intend to try next time. Are you hitting a show? You're coming from Chicago, right? Yes, please let me know how your stay was when you return. Have fun and good luck!
|
Hey Hip!
Yes, we will try to hit a show..im thinking either La Cage..or Legends in Concert..I havent been to vegas in like 6 years and im pretty excited..i need some "cheeziness" to end my summer:) Yes, We are coming from Chicago..we got a really good Funjet Vacation package for 3 nights/4 days... I will for sure let you know how the hotel is..I hear they are trying to become more of an "adult" resort and not so much a family one.. |
Yes, the TI half-naked women show I think it's called...HA! If you're not on a tight budget and can get tix for Mystere or O I highly recommend! I have never splurged for O, but have seen Mystere twice (it's always changing) and have 1st row seats this time so I'm psyched! We saw the Jubilee show one time, it was pretty cheezy. Good old time LV. It was cool for awhile, but got bored by the end. I'm sure you have other posting regarding your trip, so I'll shut up now!
|
haha no way..keep telling me all your secrets about vegas!!
Have you ever been to Olio! for dinner at the MGM grand? we are thinking of doing that one night and having mexican at the pink taco at the Hard rock as well for another night.. Where are you from? |
Hip - I will admit that we do get stuck in a rut going back for tried and true...should probably venture off the strip a little more. We've never been to the Hard Rock (I did visit one in Tokyo--I'm not rich--I live frugally and love to travel :) nor have I eaten at the MGM. There's a $$-$$$ taqueria inside the Venetian (put your name on the list because there's usually a wait time for a table by the water). We have fun there because the gondolas come by and all of the driver's sing while there are usually at least 3 proposals on bended knee (we get a kick out of it :). We're not super gamblers, we just like to have fun and also tend to alternate rides (Stratosphere, Circus-Circus, NYNY, Sahara) walking the strip ducking into casinos for a few slots and drinks, checking out casino attractions (don't miss Caesars which has a great show on the hour, every hour, amidst the forum shops, and of course TI Pirates are fun). We don't like to do much on a schedule, and usually just eat where we land :) Although we might try a restaurant at the Bellagio this time. If you're just out and about without reservations, some of the restaurants offer pagers and just buzz you when your table's ready (Cheesecake Factory does this...I believe they're inside Caesars). Now for me...in Chicago not sure what your age group is (born in '70?) but do you have recommendation for some good local music near d/t area? Whew! That was a long post...I get a little wordy sometimes!

P.S. Hip, I'm in Seattle :)
|
Hey Virgo~
My husband and I were at TI last month. They upgraded us free to a tower suite for our 20th anniversary, sent up champagne and two days passes for their b-fast buffet,(which, not to sound ungrateful, wasn't worth the $17 a day under normal conditions No show there til they finish the new one, but we loved looking around the other places. One place I would heartily recommend to anyone is Rosemary's in the Rio- we both had the tasting menu(65 pp), and it was amazing, coupled with a very good white wine and dessert creation(complimentary for the anniv. and the waiter's tip, lol). Enjoy your visit there and have fun! |
Jet -- Hey thanks! That's what I wanted to hear! Sounds like you had a wonderful 20th. Congrats!
|
Hi!! Heard only good things about Rosemarys, how far is it from the strip, staying at Paris? D you need reservations?
|
was in las Vegas last Tues-Thurs. Ate at Belligio for dinner buffet-25pp and it was great. The pirate show outside of TI is on hold for now for repairs so dont pay extra to have a view. Got tickets on line for "O" --$99pp for 2nd row in balcony--great show
|
Donna,
Regarding Rosemary's-- we chose the Rio location, not the farther one off the strip. Definitely make reservations. I did six weeks prior, and a couple days were already sold out. I believe they use hourly seating time, we were there at 7, so it was nice and relaxing. Forgot to mention in prior post that the tasting menu was five course, each one beyond excellent(and I have a rather meat and potatoes hubby who was being a good sport, but ended up quite impressed).By cab, it was a five minute ride from TI, he used back roads, very reasonable for a change. We also had a great dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. I had skate, which is a favorite on the menu. I am looking forward to dining in the Venetian and Bellagio next trip. Enjoy! |
Thank you to Sassy and Jet for restaurant reviews :)
|
Thanks so much for the info, I'll make reservations for Rosemary's and was thinking of going to Mon Ami Gabi, now I'm definetly going... Thanks AGain

I stayed at Treasure Island this last May and thought it was comperable to the Mirage and Bellagio. I have been staying at those properties for sevaral years. Bellagio has an amazing bathroom with a fantastic bath tub but other that that, I don't see a real difference between those room and Treasure Island.
It is at the end of the strip but you can always catch a cab up to the other hotels with no problem. Have fun. |
HIP!
Just got back last night! You will be very pleased with Treasure Island..The rooms are VERY nice..bathroom is VERY big..very clean, nice amenities...we had a view of the strip...everyone was very happy to help us..pool was a tad small, but it was still pretty pleasant..the hotel has a nice starbucks, ben and jerreys, candy stores, tons of little shops..the Terrace cafe is pretty decent for a 24 hour coffee shop..we had breakfast there every day.. Many ppl have been saying that TI's slots were tight...not the case at all for me..i hit them TWICE..and drinks were plenty...Also, its a really nice location, you are pretty much connected to the Mirage by a tram..and across from us was the Venetian..connected by a walkway...we took a cab to the other end ie Mandalay bay..it was only about $ 10.00.. YOu are gonna have a great stay!.. Also, check out RumJungle in Mandalay bay..GREAT brazilian dinner! LEt me know if you want more info! Hipster |
HIPSTER! -- I'm sooooo glad to hear you had such a great time! It's always a plus to hit some slots to help pay for the trip :) I think I've got it together for Las Vegas and I'm looking forward to the TI. I'm still pinning down final details for Chicago...I'm mapping out most everything walking right now, so I'll see how that goes. As I mentioned before TONS of conventions in town so I booked the HoJo, but it was really 9/16 that was the big problem, so I decided to hop over to another hotel 9/17 and got the Sheraton Towers through Priceline. I will be packing light so it really shouldn't be a big deal to switch :-\ I might like to go listen to some local jazz or blues or ? somewhere...can you recommend a place to go alone inconspicuously that's not a pick up joint?
|
Am also booked at TI for this month, and haven't even ever walked in the doors, so glad to hear the good reviews. We haven't been to Vegas in 10 years, and it's our anniversary too (27 years!).....hoping for that free upgrade!.....
|
Hey Hip!
Sheraton Towers is a nice hotel..dont know much about the HoJo..i think its pretty decent...so far the weather is pretty nice and steady in the 80's...You MIGHT need a light jacket for next week tho...As for jazz/blues...the only one i really recommend is not really close to downtown..but its called the Green Mill and its in Uptown...Im gonna be honest..its not the greatest neighborhood..but its probally the most authentic jazzy/blues club..The Red Line train will take you right there..i think the stop is Lawrence..but you can get on www.metromix.com to find out about The Green Mill..it was Al Capone's old hang out!!! You have to let me know how oprah was! HENS4TH, I told the girl at the check in that my flight was horrible and they gave me an upper floor with a really nice view of the strip..im sure they will upgrade you if you let them know its your anniversary:) they also gave us 2for1 drinks at the bar mist in the hotel...You will not be disappointed with TI..im very picky:) and i really enjoyed my stay there..the feel of the hotel is really inviting..and its not huge like the MGM where I felt it was very impersonal..Have a great time! |
hitster70: Thanks so much for the feedback. We leave this Weds (for LA - then on to Vegas Sun.) and I am getting so jazzed about the trip! Am now working w/hubby on his "suave, sophisticated, it's-our-anniversary-can-we-have-a-special-room-at-the-same-price schpiel". (which is hilarious, 'cause we're hicks from Kansas).....
|
HIP! I'm off to Chicago tomorrow morning! I'm reeeeaaally looking forward to it! I'll let you know how much fun I had when I return! :) I'm glad you had an awesome time in LV! I hope to hit some slots and maybe even check out the Hard Rock this time around (Oct).
|
Hip - I can't even tell you how much fun I had in Chicago! I met so many wonderful people, starting with Cafe Iberico meeting a couple that shared Tapas and Sangria, and the next table who share museum passes. The Lion King was absolutely FABULOUS! The rest was close to being just as wonderful. I'm so glad I made the trip and didn't chicken out to go by myself. Treasure Island is Oct 5th with my best girlfriend from high school. I hope to have as good a time as you did :) Will post...post-trip!
|
HIP!
Glad your back!!! I knew you would love my city:) and good deal with cafe iberico..we hit that place like once a month..it is THE best tapas place in Chicago...Did you see oprah?! What else did you do!? Details!! |
HIP! Yes, I made it to Oprah! I thought she might look different in person...NOPE, exactly the same :) My show airs today (Real People Solving Crimes). Of course the show taped before mine (Salma Hayek and Beyonce) and the show after (Aretha Franklin and Mary Kay Blige) would have been a little more exciting! I did get to sit in the 2nd row, right behind the group of chairs the family of guests sit, so that was nice. 1st day (my birthday) I mainly wandered around Michigan Ave and then Cafe Iberico for dinner and then up to the John Hancock Tower for the view and then back to wandering until I felt I should get back to the hotel. 2nd day was Oprah so I just got up and had breakfast and then in between Oprah and the Lion King (FABULOUS), I wandered the waterfront. I met so many nice people! I went into the bar at Hotel Allegro before the show and met a woman my age who offered to pay for my wine. I wish I would have suggested meeting up after the show (she was going to Mama Mia) but I dashed when I realized the time so I didn't experience any clubs while there. 3rd day I was up early to go to The Field Museum, Museum of S & I and the Shedd Aquarium (all were awesome)! Then I HAD to make it back to Michgan Ave to American Girl Place. I promised my daughter I'd bring back a doll for her. She wouldn't have know about the place except they somehow found out I was coming to Chicago and sent a catalog! I caught the train back to O'Hare from the stop near Marshall Fields so I looked around a little (they also had some scalers dancing down the side of the building that day) and watched the set up for Poi Dog Pondering across the street. That's about all I had time for! I will definitely come back again, I have only great things to say about Chicago :-d
|
Hip!
I am sooo glad you had a blast..you lucked out being at Marshall Fields during their ReGrand Opening!..I heard it was really awsome! Good deal on going to the Hancock..in my opinion..its a much better experience than the Sears Tower because you can have cocktails up there..and the view is spectacular...btw..happy belated:)YOu have to come back here when you have the chance...i have more places to recommend.. Speaking of..we are planning to hit Aruba ...ever been? |
I must have come in after the show started...
Wasn't this post supposed to be about Las Vegas? |
gotribe - hey, take it easy...try starting at the top.
|
Hip! -- No, I've never been to Aruba. I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time! I think our next "big" trip will be to Costa Rica -- our whole itineray was planned pre-9/11 to go the following May and then we cancelled because we just didn't feel good about traveling out of the country. We'll see...I'll definitely check back for more recommendations next time in Chicago and make it a longer trip this time too! Have a GREAT weekend!
|
hipster -- In case you check back on this post...I'm finally reporting back! You know what? We actually ended up staying at the Venetian (not because we thought we wouldn't like TI, but because we decided to take a chance on Priceline and check it out). We did have a spectacular room and a not to be beaten Priceline price, so we were very excited and pleased with the stay. We still have unused airfare tix (will just need to pay the change fee) that we will use by next October, so maybe TI next time. All the reports back sounded great! My friend did very well on the slots so we were able to treat ourselves to great food, and she was also part of the audience participation at Mystere. She's kind of a magnet that way :) Hope your trip planning to Aruba is going well :)
|
Hey HIp!!!
Glad to hear you had a great time...how was the Venetian??? I really liked it when we checked it out..although the gondola rides were cheesy!) Aruba is planning well...we are probally going end of march,or 1st week of April.... Where else are you headed this year? |
HIP--The rooms at the Venetian were great and the Casino is beautiful! We had a standard suite because it was through Priceline. Still it was a luxurious 750sq ft. The living room was separate and had a fold out couch/chairs/dining table/large screen tv and mini bar. The bedroom area was nice with 2 beds and another large screen tv. The bathroom was huge with separate vanity separate shower and tub and toilet area (3 phones in one suite)! BUT, we didn't use the living room or TV's even once! All said, a great place for romance or to entertain guests. Being with my best girlfriend and leaving our boyfriends at home, we had neither :) I had no luck at the Venetian casino and didn't play there after the first day. You're right, the canals are cheesy and I'd probably never take a ride, but I actually enjoy the cheese of watching :) No trips planned for the rest of this year except our holiday stays with family in Eugene, OR and/or Portland, OR. During the school year I volunteer a lot as well as keep work to 30 hrs/wk which keeps travel at a minimum. Like you though, we're fortunate to have lots to do in our own city :) I'll be checking in though...:)
