Traverse City Hotel Suggestion
Has anyone stayed at the Cherry Tree Resort and Hotel in Traverse City? I am planning on going 2 days in August with my husband. Any other hotel ideas, Thanks
|
The Tamarack Lodge is fabulous. I don't know how to post a link but its tamaracklodgetc.com
We also like the Beach Condominiums in Traverse City (next door to the Tamarack Lodge). Google it. |
The Tamarack Lodge looks beautiful but for two nights only rooms available came out to $874. That is quite pricey.
Did you find that you paid this much? |
You may want to check out Crystal Mountain Resort. It is a short, but scenic, drive to Traverse City. Very nice accomodations and a great restaurant on site.
|
We stayed at the Tamarack Lodge in late May for five nights and the rates were MUCH cheaper than full summer. We were also able to get a AAA discount which helped. $874 for two nights is obviously very pricey. If you ever have the chance to stay there in the spring or the fall, do it.
Did you look at the Beach Condominiums? They won't be as much as Tamarack Lodge. I have never stayed at the Cherry Tree Resort, but it looks nice from the outside. More possibilities are the Sugar Beach Resort and the Grand Beach Resort. I think they are quite popular. All of these resorts are on Grand Traverse Bay - very nice! Good luck! |
Thanks for everyones help, I will check out the rest of the hotels mentioned.
|
The Cherry Tree Inn is nice, but their water level is low. The Beach Condos is lovely, but pricey, although not as expensive as the fabulous Tamarack Lodge. I'd check out the Bayshore as well as the Sugar or Grand Beach. Another place that is nice with great rates is the Pinestead Reef, but they are a timeshare and can be hard to get into.
If you need help, call the Convention & Visitors Bureau Central Reservations at 800-872-8377. The rates are the same as if you called around on your own, and the travel concierges don't work on personal commisson, so they won't try to oversell you. |
If you're interested in staying farther north on the Leelanau Peninsula, Sunrise Landing is my favorite place to stay. It's about 30-40 minutes from Traverse City so if you plan on spending a lot of time in downtown TC, it probably wouldn't be the best location. But if you plan on touring the whole area and want someplace affordable right on the bay, it's great. Most, if not all of the rooms have kitchens too. Their web site is sunriselanding.com and they're located a little bit north of Omena and south of Northport.
Right in TC, Sugar Beach is nice too. The only place I'd steer you away from is the Best Western - it's noisy and not very nice. |
I couldn't get into Sugar Beach so staying at Cherry Tree. Special weekday rate overlooking water with balcony including breakfast. I wanted to stay close to TC downtown.
|
I think you will be fine. The Cherry Tree looks quite nice and is fairly new.
Have fun in Traverse City! |
vittoria, just so you know, the Cherry Tree Inn is about five miles from downtown, so not really close to it.
|
FYI -- The closest hotels to downtown Traverse City would be the Park Place Hotel, Holiday Inn and Bayshore Resort.
|
The hotel told me it would me about a 10 minute drive, does that seem right?
I was thinking of the Bayshore but read negative comments on trip advisor. |
Negative comments about the Bayshore? I have to admit, that surprises me. I work in local tourism, and just don't hear complaints about them. The Cherry Tree Inn is about a 15 minute drive from the downtown area. It takes me ten minutes to get to work and I'm only three miles away.
Oh and The Cherry Tree Inn is about ten years old, although they do have a second building that is about 4 years old. |
I haven't been here yet, but it gets great reviews. I have been to the vineyard and tasting room and it is great with great views! The wine is excellent as well.

Chateau Grand Traverse is the oldest winery on the Peninsula.
In case anyone is interested this is a popular event the weekend after Thanksgiving. http://wineriesofoldmission.com/?q=node/91 |
Cherry Tree will be about a 15 minute drive to downtown Traverse City depending on the time of day.
It's hard to believe that the Cherry Tree is 10 years old already. Time flies, I guess! |
Hello:
We will be doing a stopover in Traverse City and will be staying at the Holiday Inn. Has anyone stayed there lately? Thanks |
Do you have to book a tour with a winery ahead of time? If you had to choose one winery tour which one do you suggest?
Hopefully the Cherry Tree was a good choice, with booking last minute rooms were not available or some were too high in price per night. I got a special rate over $140 per night, water view, balcony and breakfast. |
I think $140 for a waterview with breakfast is a good rate.
