Traverse City Area - beach that allows dogs

Going to be in the general TC area Labor Day weekend.Looking for maybe a hidden area or something where we can take our dog and enjoy the beach and water. Could be Charlevoux or Petosky too. Strange request huh? LOL

I don't think you can take a dog onto the city beaches, but I think there are parts of the TC state park beach where dogs are allowed. If you want something a little less busy, take Center Rd up on the Old Mission Peninsula and when you get close to the lighthouse, there are some pretty quiet beaches. Make sure though that there isn't a home across the street, you don't want to go onto someones private beach. Just park on the side of the road and walk, or you could go up to the lighthouse, park in the lot hike the trails there and you will probably end up on the beach. :-)

Or head up the Leelanau Peninsula and go to the state park up past Northport. Dogs are allowed there, and while you're there, be sure to visit the Grand Traverse Lighthouse & museum.
