Travels with a bathing suit?

I am sure this question has been asked and answered many times and I know it is of great importance to my fellow travelers but well one more time! Where do you suggest I pack my bathing suit? I simply can't seem to come up with a good spot. I can pack it with my travel on items but then I end up with a very hard to handle carry on bag but if I pack it in my checked luggage what do I do should my luggage become lost? My bathing suit is certainly to big to fit in my pockets should my special flying outfit be sporting pockets on that day and I certainly can't trot about the plane with a bathing suit in my hand!!! I have spent much time choosing my bathing suits and wish NOT to have to purchase such a personal item as a bathing suit anywhere willy nilly...ugg! Please help me with this most troubling issue. **smooch**

nytraveler Dec 8th, 2004 03:26 PM

Why not simply wear it as your special on-plane outifit? Then you won;t have to worry about all that pesky frisking by the security screeners!

Budman Dec 8th, 2004 04:57 PM

muffin, it should fit in with your dental floss. You'll have no problem. **smooch** ((b))

bamakelly Dec 8th, 2004 05:14 PM

Alternatively, just don't pack one at all. This gives you a good excuse to go shopping. You simply buy a new one once you arrive at your destination, should you choose to wear one at all. Also, you would then have a fine collection so that once you return home you have a special suit to remind you of each vacation.

I had great luck buying a swimsuit last year while we were in Australia! Never say never! But to answer your question, I pack it with my checked luggage... it certainly isn't a necessity for me... I love to shop!

OneWanderingJew Dec 8th, 2004 09:51 PM

Muffin,
Have you thought about having a few cute things sent ahead? That way you don't have to bother with the hassle of carrying everything and it leaves more time for shopping.

Now I have a bathing suit, travel related question for YOU? When should one schedule their waxing appointment? The day before the bathing suit-wearing adventure or once you arrive? Where I come from, it is frowned upon to be hairy so arriving stubbly is not an option for me...oh my, another thought? Will waxing make me stand out as an American?

Happy Holiday and many **smooches** to you!

OneWanderingJew Dec 8th, 2004 09:52 PM

I meant it leaves more ROOM for shopping.

lcuy Dec 8th, 2004 09:53 PM

I would roll it up in my leather pants, attach straps and wear it as a backpack.

Intrepid1 Dec 9th, 2004 12:49 AM

Your bathing suit is probably really small when compared to that get-up I recently saw one of the above posters wearing at the Fodors GTG..talk about obese!

Stephanie Dec 9th, 2004 01:24 AM

If you are taking a pilot case as a carry on, stick it in the front zippered compartment outside the main compartment. If you are traveling to a warm climate you wear mostly bathing suits during the day on the beach so take like 3 or 4 for variety.

Nina66 Dec 9th, 2004 02:13 AM

Hopefully your suits are one piece not two piece - cause then you would have twice as many items to worry about. Don't muffins wear paper cupcake cups? Smooches right back at ya.

seetheworld Dec 9th, 2004 03:16 AM

"Don't muffins wear paper cupcake cups?" ROLFLOL Patsies for muffin!

girlonthego Dec 9th, 2004 03:48 AM

Wear it under your clothes on the plane! This way you can strip right in the lobby of the hotel! That is unless cover ups are required in the main areas. LOL

muffin Dec 9th, 2004 09:06 AM

I would suggest waxing a day or two before you leave. Don't forget to pop a Motrin or a glass of champagne to help with any pain. No you certainly can't go flipping all around the island in a bathing suit with well um an unsightly mess. Good luck and happy waxing. **smooch**

portfolioneutral Dec 9th, 2004 10:01 AM

creeping thong, or traditional playsuit, muffing?

FainaAgain Dec 9th, 2004 11:16 AM

Is this a rolled-up bathing suit in your pocket or are you happy to see me?

placeu2 Dec 9th, 2004 11:28 AM

I love the responses suggesting purchasing a suit at your destination!

Poor muffin still has the same question on the return trip...duh! ;-)

Perhaps as a guy I don't understand this dilemma (in fact, I am SURE that I don't). What is the problem with jamming your suit into a ball and sticking it in any available corner of your luggage? Seriously, what is the worst that can happen?

indie Dec 9th, 2004 11:42 AM

bathing suits make you carry on luggage hard to handle? are we talking leather and metal bathing suits here?

Of course the metal would help if the lizards you pet were to get aggressive

**smooch**

Elizabeth Dec 9th, 2004 04:27 PM

I wish I could help but this post is giving me PTSD flashbacks to the time I put a bathing suit in my carry-on luggage
it was the worst thing that ever happened to me.

kimamom Dec 9th, 2004 04:31 PM

muffin, do you also post under the screen name of Scarlett? Just curious. You have similar personalities!

Take a backpack with your swimsuit inside of it. Problem sovled! Thanks for the chuckle!! ***kim*** :)

Scarlett Dec 9th, 2004 04:36 PM

Kim, why take good natured kidding to being insulting? Get over it dear.

seetheworld Dec 9th, 2004 04:42 PM

WOW...some people should quit while their ahead - Kim? No? Kim? You're sounding a lot like muffin, dear! I'm beginning to choke here on the load you are dishing out...for pete's sake.

MaxwellSmart Dec 9th, 2004 07:15 PM

My guess is that Patrick and his partner are ROFL for all those who take Muffin's bait on Fodor's.

bamakelly Dec 9th, 2004 07:15 PM

Strange--I would never have compared Scarlett to muffin...

and, even stranger, the comparison came from someone whose posts are similar to muffins (especially with the ***signoff***)

hmmmmm....

seetheworld Dec 9th, 2004 07:21 PM

I agree with you barmakelly. Kim dear speaks a lot about robes and spas - that seems to fit muffin's MO, huh?

MaxwellSmart Dec 9th, 2004 07:58 PM

Smokescreen, anyone?

jetset1 Dec 9th, 2004 07:59 PM

be kind.. I heard through the grapevine that our poor ***muffin*** has ***Gargantuan*** thighs. No itc(inner thigh clearance) at all..(imagine what those leather pants do in warm weather).

ccolor Dec 10th, 2004 02:45 AM

Back to the bathing suit - ask your husband/significant other to wear it for you through the airport.

joan Dec 10th, 2004 04:38 AM

Doesn't it seem obvious to anyone else that muffin is a man?

Agent 86, bring on the Cone Of Silence!

GoTravel Dec 10th, 2004 05:52 AM

muffin, wear it on your head and tell people it is the newest in lycra hats.

***GoTravel***

portfolioneutral Dec 10th, 2004 06:07 AM

Uh, Kim, in case no one has explained the Fodor rules, there are certain posters .... no, no, I was just kidding .... aghhhhhhhh.

Anyway, happy holidays to all, and a peaceful and prosperous 2005. Happy travels to all!!

TripleSecDelay Dec 10th, 2004 10:07 AM

Okay, I haven't heard "ITC" for a looooonnnnng time. That's a classic!! Thanks for reminding me. I'm sure I'll hear that again at my 40th H.S. reunion party...

cigalechanta Dec 12th, 2004 10:08 AM

Fashion tip: Wear the bathing suit, top the bottom with a pareo, et voila!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Muffin. Every time I'm waiting in line, trying to find a parking space, cooking for 50, rehanging the lights, etc. I will think of your excellent travel tips and pertinent questions and enjoy the season happy in the knowledge that you are somewhere out there. Have a wonderful winter solstice and a happy gregorian New Year!
